Challenge
« on: November 14, 2012, 10:32:46 AM »
I worked a Demo a few weeks ago and knew I wanted one of these...wow such a great ball!

Ive had two sets so far, first was 670 plus, second was last night on AMF HPL's, THS I go 257, 226, 280 clean for a 763 set, my highest so far this season.

I love the power even with a 5 1/4" pin to pap, the cover is strong enough for me on the fresh, as well as clean enough to handle transitions. The cover is a re-formulated version of the cover off the One from several years ago, one of Ebonite's best sellers.

I like the 1500 grit oob, it really matches up to my game, for me I rarely match up to any ball out of the box, the Challenge is a rare exception here. What you will get with this ball is versatility, I think it's strongest point here.

The demo ball I threw had a stronger pin and mb placement, and it was a absolute monster. I needed a ball in between my Mission X and Endure, and with the drilling I accomplished that.

With different drillings and cover preps, I could see drilling multiple Challenges and cover most everything from med-hvy conditions.

I really think Ebonite has a great ball for a wide range of bowlers here, if you are on the fence about EBI and their products, give them a look. This ball will give any other in it's price point a big run for its money.

Love this ball.
drilled pin up and MB near thumb
its very arcing and predictable
a stronger piece in my bag
hits like a freight train and carries well

many were leaving corners in a baker format last weekend
in 10 games i left 2.
others had 5-6 in 10 games

great strong ball for many styles
very predictable and that is what matters the most to me

This ball just punched my ticket into the District finals in the Open division of AMF's $700,000 National In-League Tournament. Yes, the tournament is POA, but with my being 107 over using this ball last night, I have nothing but praise for this ball. Funnily enough, I seem to be the only one throwing this ball on my shift the entire night. In fact, this ball has slipped in well under the radar here in NorCal, since everyone here has jumped on the Storm bandwagon.

Anyway, this ball is an absolute beast, especially in heavy conditions. I was able to stay with it for the entire block, adjusting maybe 4 boards for the carry-down, and make my own track, while everyone else struggled as they were throwing the same line. I would have had to be 5 right of the Challenge with my Mission Domination to throw a similar line, but that would have run into everyone else's track 35ft down the lane, giving me a huge over-under reaction. The Challenge took all of that out of the picture.

Tommy and Ed were right in the video: The ball does not lose energy when the lanes break down, causing other balls to bog down, face up early, making you ball down. You could definitely punch up another one the exact same way, polish it, and get the same reaction in later stages; in fact, I'm thinking of doing the same, and comparing the polished version would stack up against the Domination/250K.

I've been throwing Ebonite equipment since 1992, with the Turbo/X, through about 1996 with the Nitro/R and Nitro/R2. Went back and forth between them and Hammer, but came to be throwing exclusively Ebonite gear since 2000. Ebonite has had solid solid products put out, until my confidence was shaken by the Mission X and Pursuit-S. I *almost* went back to Hammer because of those alone. The Challenge restored my faith in Ebonite, and if they keep doing this right, they'll be back on top once again.

I demo'd this ball last week and was shocked at how strong it was on the back end. I don't expect Ebonite balls to turn the corner well (especially if it has surface), but this one made a late and strong left turn for me.

+1, add that I really like the oob grit, let's me burn a spot then move left off that and still clean enough to make the corner.

Have to agree with this.

We bowled a team last night in which their entire side played the same outside line. Normally, I wouldn't have a problem with that, except that if I used my Mission Domination, I would be slightly left of their track, but would be swinging into it, which would have given me massive over/under.

Switched to my Challenge, which had me roughly 6 boards left of the Domination, and 12 left of their track. No-one else threw my line, as I cruised to the low 700s for the set.

I'd love to see this ball take on a sport shot.

We actually had a sport shot side-by-side with the house shot on our practice session last week but I didn't throw the Challenge on it. It was a short pattern (Beijing) and I thought this ball would be too much for it. It would be interesting to see it on a different pattern.
