Please help with V2 dry
« on: June 13, 2003, 09:23:10 AM »
I tried asking for info on this before, and didn't do a very good job of asking the question.

I have not thrown much in the way of particle balls, so the main points I would like covered are these:  1) What does the ball look like on the lane?  Is it an arcing action, skid-flip, or will it hook at my toes and keep going left?

2) How sensitive is it to oil?  Will it get through broken down heads and still be able to work through oil that has carried downlane?  I ask this because my current dry lane ball is a pearlized urethane that demands a lot of dry as it gets kinda squirty and unpredictable if there's much oil downlane.

3) The total hook rating kinda concerns me.  I bought a Stinger Pearl Low Flare looking for something with more length and a weaker reaction than my Savage Pearl.  I got length, but this ball still covers almost as many boards as the Savage - basically only giving me a different breakpoint and entry angle.  Don't get me wrong, they're both great balls and I've had much success with both, but when my pro shop guy and I looked over the Stinger, everything Ebonite posted on it suggested it would be much tamer than it is.  Basically I don't want to buy a "dry" ball and find it is actually more of a "med. oil" ball.   I throw above avg. revs and avg. speed - if that info helps any.  Sorry, I have never used the CATS system, so I can't really be any more specific.

Thanks for any info anyone can give me on this ball.  Hopefully a few reviews will start poping up on it!

Methink's you need a longer pin distance to cg(Ie 4-5"), And try a different label shift. I used to roll a ball with a 1:30 negative barbell pattern. Long & small arc! And try the New V2 Dry! Jeff Carter informed me that this ball does'nt hook that much!

I will try and answer your questions the best that i can.

1) It really doesnt act like your average particle ball. The reason it is particle is to help offset core. It really depends on what type of pattern you are bowling on as to what type of shape the ball will have. No matter what it wont hook at your toes. If you are bowling on fresh with clean backends it will be a little skid/flippy, but not like other reactives. It could be put into the "arcing" catagory on most medium to light conditions, but it is still continuous in the backend.

2) I would say that it is very sensitive to oil. This isnt a ball that you will need on medium to heavy oil at all. The best time to go to this ball is when either the track totally burns up or if you are having a hard time getting the ball through the midlane. If you have plenty of friction to throw to, this will be the ball.

3) The V2 Dry is definitley tamer than the Stinger Low Flare. I have them about 5-6 boards apart. The Low-Flare revs up a little quicker and jerks harder. The V2 Dry's move at the breakpoint isnt nearly as sharp, but it still continues. This may be kind of weird to say but it really is like a V2 cut in half ( or quarter ). It has the same roll pattern of the V2, just not as much and a lot later down lane.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the drill tip, OldSchool.  I'll look into that a little further.

Also, Thanks to Jeff for the info on the ball.  You answered pretty much exactly what I was asking.  It can be really tricky judging how a ball will react based upon what the marketing depts. post about them (not to mention varations in style and drill layouts).  I am gaining more interest in this ball the more I learn about it.  Thanks again, I'll let you know when/if the wife will let me get one!
