Cyclone question.... aggressive layout.
« on: August 28, 2014, 05:36:40 PM »
I have been away from bowling for about 4 years.  In the past I've kept up with bowling technology, but obviously I have some catching up to do.  Keep that in mind when reading the below question.

My only ball right now is a Cyclone and I love it.  It hits well, gets some moderate length, turns fairly well, and did I mention it hits well.  I am throwing a 14# and it still drives through the pins like a beast..

I don't have a lot of revs.  It's not going to improve, and I cannot step up in weight.  One of the reasons why I came back to bowling was to stay active while battling a relatively minor but sometimes painful and annoying degenerative muscle problem.  It's working.

I need a bit more total hook in my game.  I don't know exactly what the angles are on my layout, but I went with a relatively passive layout.  That's all I can tell you.  If I were to drill up another Cyclone with an aggressive layout and adjust the surface appropriately, how many more boards could it cover?

I know it may sound crazy to you guys, but bear with me, I have my reasons.  I can get another Cyclone really inexpensive from my local shop, and the core and coverstock really seem to work for me.  For right now I really need to stick with the tried and true.

FWIW, I have always preferred mid-level, moderate performance balls.  This probably also has a lot to do with my desire to just stick with a Cyclone.

I've done similar things before.  At one time I was toting 4 balls around, 2 purple Rhino Pros and 2 Prohook Extremes.  At that time I was probably best-matched to the conditions around me more than most of my local peers.  I guess it is just a habit for me.

Sorry if I got a little talkative there.  Pain meds do that to me.  Any advice is appreciated.  Good luck on the start of the new league season guys.

BallDoc,

To translate.

I now with 3000 light pad cover a lot of boards with my cyclone and also get recovery.  More than most!

The reaction I have now reminds me of an Absolute curve.  Much like this

In the past it didn't recover from as deep, pre scuff.

Lastly, I believe I have slightly reduced the over/under on my wet/dry house due to something else I have added to my prep process.

Best of luck
