Ebonite Magic Action
« on: January 19, 2010, 05:35:45 PM »
Ok well I have finally thrown this beast. As a recap my magic action is drilled pin under ring, cg kicked out a bit to the right, with a large weight hole. This ball was never thrown in box finish.. it was thrown with beans sauce over the box finish. On a fresh ths.. all I can see is wow... this thing might be too strong. What I mean by that is it was easily 4 boards stronger then my mutant at box finish with a similar drilling, and definately more continuous. I am afraid to knock the polish off and test it at box finish without the polish. I was able to throw it for 4 frames before having to put it away in favor of my Black Widow Nasty. I am very impressed with the ball motion from the Magic Action. When I first threw the ball I thought it was going to slide into the 10 pin, and then the ball just snapped left.... this will be ideal for a heavy heavy oil pattern. I will definately stay ebonite. Pics of the layout can be seen here: http://s647.photobucket.com/albums/uu195/tizzle08/Latest%20Arsenal/

Another key thing to note was how the oil just wiped away from the cover.. Just like the magic the oil doesn''''t absorb.. it kinda of sits on the cover.. very weird.. but obviously the Flexol works!

Hmm..Lets see what I have in this bag...
Magical Action, a Nasty Spider, a very Sharp Noise, and a Spare Track.. how can I loose....

....HG-300(2006 w/Desert Heat)...299 (03/15/09 w/Agent Orange)...HS-776 (Hot Sauce Pearl & Ebonite Magic)

The key thing to remember is that you obviously have no burn rate with this ball... Maybe a little surface would turn this ball into a totally different machine. If you put the same surface on this one as you have on the Mutant than they may overlap each other. With todays conditions, polished bowling balls doesnt always mean less hook. For me, it means "MORE". I can throw my 500 Abralon VG with less effort than my 4000 Polished Reign on a house shot. But I guess, its all about how you roll it. I tend to create more burn rates of the balls than most people do.  John

Indeed...The funny thing is... the mutant at this surface was actually weaker in oil then with the lower surface (which is usually the case). This ball is stronger in oil with polish on it. I am very happy with it so far.. I will throw it again tonight to see if I was having nbs (new ball syndrome).

Good to know you still see plenty of downlane motion with this layout. I drilled my Mutant and MA on the same day and have noticed that as the Mutant has faded a tad, the MA has gotten stronger as I have 'cracked' the cover.

Continued good luck.

thanks for the post.  I just had my magic action drilled last night and plan on throwing it tonight.  I have about the same drilling as you have only with a shorter pin.  I am excited about this ball.  I am currently throwing a 900 global break point pearl and like that ball alot.  I am getting in a mutant later and those are the three i plan on using.  I was thinking pin over and the cg kicked out about 25* on the mutant.  any thoughts on this.  My bpp is drilled close to my magic action if that helps.  all thoughts are appreciated.
Medium revs
Medium speed

14lb agent
skull and cross bones
rogue cell- not my thing
Break point pearl- now is my favorite ball

Complete: Thanks for the advise you gave before I got the ma, and sure enough what you saw is what I see! The Magic Action is the more continuous of the two, and absorbs less oil if its anything like the magic... flexol cover. Coco.. that drilling should give you length and a nice backend. What you want to think about is what is the ball intended for. If you are using it for a step down to the Ma... I would not do that. My step down is the Black Widow Nasty.. the mutant will be too strong to be a step down ball, as the oil drys up it will get stronger... or will begin to burnup.

Walter... haha.. yeah thanks my man for the deal...

Update: Ok so tonight is my more difficult league.. The lanes are usually oilier and have less friction then my Monday night shot. I immediatley pulled out the Magic Action to see would I have to play more direct to get the ball to finish.... Wrong idea all together. The magic action immediately forced me to move 3 boards deeper with my feet and 2 with my eyes over my normal line with the mutant cell. I was able to throw 5 frames before having to move. Everyone was playing around the same area, so I figured I would increase my tilt and move deeper away from all the other bowlers. I was expecting to have to adjust my breakpoint after moving 10 boards.. wrong again. The magic action came screaming back and the carry was unreal. I can honestly say I have never seen an ebonite ball move and carry like this. I ended up shooting a low 600 series, as for some reason the lanes we were bowling on were sticky to no end, and I had to easy slide up my planting foot after every shot. We had a guy injure himself on these same pair... weird! Had it not been for that I would have easily averaged 230+ with the magic. All in all.. I would say this is the strongest ball that I have ever thrown.. and except for this set of new releases.. I have thrown nearly everything out there. I can't even imagine what they have done with the Mission!

It's not the ball, it's the driller

Tizzle....your welcome. Shot 734 with mine last night and I left a bunch out there. I am loving it. So much so that I was thinking of selling my Mutant or maybe simply sanding it down to 500 and using it on heavy volumes.

I dunno....the MA is so much stronger downlane without being snappy that it is hard to imagine using the Mutant on THS.

Btw Coco....mine is drilled exactly as yours and it is very versatile.

Ebonite definately needs to put out better promotion.. I almost looked over this release.. now adding the jacked to the arsenal for that earlier more continuous look! Then fill in under the widow with a Onyx vibe and an avalanche pearl!

I never go by any magazines numbers as I never know who is paying who and who is rubbing whos back.. not to say that is the case. My review is unbiased and i'm not getting a hand out from either.. and I can tell you the mutant is strong, but the Magic Action moves alot more, and carries alot better. Thats in my hands..

It's also a relatively strong drilling. On my PAP of 5 1/2 x 1/2 up it was 45ºx5x70º with a 31/32 hole 3" deep 5 1/2 over through the CG.

Wow...you guys are really making me want to try out a magic action now

I know it depends on the drilling and surface and whatnot, but in general, where would the MA fit best in my arsenal now?
