Ebonite Mission Original
« on: September 24, 2015, 09:39:58 PM »
I was given an original Ebonite Mission back earlier this year...and once I made my switch from no thumb to thumb in, it is by far my favorite ball I have used. Other than taking a chance with buying one used on ebay, what current ebonite ball is closest to the mission? I know the energy source has the mission core, but has the 4500xl cover which I assume is different than the 1200xl cover the OG mission had.

I am a right handed bowler, 16-18mph, high track, tweener.

My mission is pin up, with the pin being slightly above and to the right of my ring finger. The ball has never been resurfaced, but has been cleaned several times.

I have a Mission in pretty good shape . Only issue is that it is drilled full roller for a lefty.
League: Pitch Purple, Destiny Magenta
Testing: MVP
Interests: Black Widow, Proof Solid, Idol Pearl

You have piqued my interest...as I would definitely get it plugged and redrilled. I happen to be from Hopkinsville, KY, the home of Ebonite, so I have this subconscious loyalty to ebonite and its brands... I've kinda gotten back into the ball market because I'm planning on bowling my first tournament ever next month and wanted to have a fairly diverse arsenal as I begin to get into tournaments.

A guy I met told me he takes 8 original missions to tournaments all drilled differently.

Any pictures of the mission and price?

Looking at the Ebonite line I think the energy source would put you the closest to the reaction of the original Mission. Even though the cover is stronger, you could play with the surface and layout to tweak the reaction to your liking. The second closest option would probably be the Game Breaker line. The Adrenaline Shot and Salute have a bit more differential and do not seem to transition quite as smoothly as the mission/source series. The Game Breaker core numbers are fairly close to the Energy Source's, but the GB 10.7 cover would give you more of a mid-lane anchor and roll off of the end of the pattern than the XL coverstock series.

Good luck filling the gap in your bag.

The confusion I get from this is what do you want the new ball to do?  Are you looking to replace the Mission you have?  Do you need more aggressive or less aggressive?  I have owned every ball in the mission line and probably 90% of the other Ebonite balls since then at some point.  If you just want to replace the mission then I would say check out the Game Breaker2 gold.  It is a little stronger but, has almost the same look on the lanes as the original.

Well...I ended up getting in contact with somebody that works at the Ebonite plant. I'll be getting a gamebreaker 2.

I greatly appreciate the replies and advice.
