 COMMENTS

The GB12.7 cover finished at 500/1000 and polished with Powerhouse Factory Finish Polish provides me with a very versatile piece of equipment for medium oil lane conditions.  Higher rev rates will also find this ball useful on longer patterns.  The use of a strong drill helps me get the ball revving early while the polish helps it get through the fronts.  It has a strong hockey stick motion off the break point that lets me play down and in comfortably or move in and send it out to the friction.  Hitting power is strong from both angles.  It may be a little too strong off the spot on fresh sport shots, but would be an excellent choice once the lanes transition and you have to move left.

ONE drilling, used on ONE oil pattern, with ZERO surface modifications, with ZERO comparisons will NEVER, EVER constitute a true ball review.

Admit it. You posted this to meet your "staff obligation", not to offer any true value judgement on this ball for fellow bowlers.

How sad.
Not sure why I bother. Not like anyone reads this chaff any more.

But he didn't say it or show it.
As I said, this is not a ball review, despite your approval of him or the ball.  A true ball review takes work, lots of hard work. It is not trivial, like this post.

FYI I was not criticizing the ball; I know the ball works great - I have one. Read what I wrote: I am criticizing this post which poses a ball review.

You could copy and paste what is written in several "reviews" and most would never notice.

I really like mine but it has 3-4 games at best and is still at box finish. I'm leaving it at box finish for a reason, I do not have anything else with a polished finish. I typically sand everything.

At box finish I really like the ball reaction. Handles oil a lot better then expected and really is strong off the spot down lane.  Just hadn't had the conditions to use this ball without trying to force something just to say I used it.

Eventually though

I have to agree with Jeff on this one.... We're all getting tired of useless semi-staff reviews. Count me in that number for certain.

Are you some type of authority on the website? An administrator? Never said your assessment was wrong.

Nope. But I Know what is wrong. I have published full reviews before; I stopped because it is WORK and I don't get paid by anyone - I have to pay for my own balls and drilling.

Many here have posted criticisms of pseudo ball reviews like this one. I've let them ride before but now, even I am sick of them. Why criticize me alone for posting my opinion of very bad ball reviews done for the purpose of meeting some manufacturer's contractual terms and not to help fellow bowlers?

Well said jeff..... I get better ideas on balls that are used on various patterns by VARIOUS type's of bowlers'.

It's refreshing when you find true honest reviews with all the pro's/cons of said balls on different patterns.

Charlest's opinion is correct.
The review was pretty weak and did not really provide much if any help.  I for one could not make a purchasing decision on this ball to benefit my game based on the review presented.

A lot of nostalgia surrounds the Mission Unknown release by the folks at Ebonite, and for good reason.  A throwback to yester-year always comes with a sense of curiosity and they are re-released for a reason… THEY WERE GOOD!  Asymmetric balls are often known to simply roll with little clearance in the front part of the lane; the Mission Unknown breaks that mold.

When asked about my thoughts on this ball, I always start with the phrase, “it is the cleanest, flippiest, asymmetric solid that I’ve ever thrown”.  For me, this ball, drilled pin-up, at box finish clears the front and responds very violently in the back part of the lane.  For control, I prefer to keep this one at 2000 abralon which enhances the overall hook potential of the piece.  I can see this ball being a perfect fit for speed dominant or rev challenged players that want a big oil ball that provides length and angularity.

I don't come on the Ebonite Board much but it strikes me that every company has its legend that can at best be emulated, but attempts to better inevitably fail.  Storm had the Virtual Gravity.  Going back a bit further Brunswick had the Vapor Zone, and it seems to me for Ebonite it is the original Mission.  I know the Mission was far and away the best Ebonite ball for my game that I have ever owned.

Brunswick probably had the best solution.  They changed the color and renamed the cover, tweaked the core, and called it a Pearl Fury instead of a Vapor Zone.  Only really good ball they made for 3 years after the Furys replaced the Zones.
