A lot of nostalgia surrounds the Mission Unknown release by the folks at Ebonite, and for good reason. A throwback to yester-year always comes with a sense of curiosity and they are re-released for a reason… THEY WERE GOOD! Asymmetric balls are often known to simply roll with little clearance in the front part of the lane; the Mission Unknown breaks that mold.
When asked about my thoughts on this ball, I always start with the phrase, “it is the cleanest, flippiest, asymmetric solid that I’ve ever thrown”. For me, this ball, drilled pin-up, at box finish clears the front and responds very violently in the back part of the lane. For control, I prefer to keep this one at 2000 abralon which enhances the overall hook potential of the piece. I can see this ball being a perfect fit for speed dominant or rev challenged players that want a big oil ball that provides length and angularity.
