ebonite v2 particle
« on: June 16, 2004, 07:45:20 AM »
i was thinking about getting an ebonite v2 particle and was wondering what you all thought about the ball for heavy oil? what was the layout, surface prep if you have owned it? do you think it is strong enough to use on a flat flooded pattern? also, drill pattern suggestions would be welcome.

I have one thats a 3 inch pin, pin above the ring finger and the CG in the palm... it doesnt hook a whole lot, but it will make the turn on any flood. its very controlled roll.  You'll like it.

I've owned mine since January 2003 and I love this ball for heavy oil. My specs for the way I have it drilled are listed in my profile. It doesn't make a heavy jump in the oil, it's more of a slow steady roll and then arcs into the pocket. I would recommend it as one of the better heavy oilers on the market for making the turn at the back after getting through the floods.

ttt... ya from looking at the ball, it seems to be what you guys are describing, a nice even arc that continues to fight through oil. Any others?

It seems like you guys are describing the other V2 particle, the V2 Strong, rather than the original purple V2 Particle. That ball gets exceptional length for such a strong ball and coverstock, yet it has, as far as I have seen, a nice arc, never a flip. I alway sthought the ball should flip given its length but it never did.

The part that throws me off is the fact that you guys are using it for heavy oil. The ones I have seen and I've seen more than a few, were rarely suitable for true heavy oil. It was more of a range ball: it would cover a wide range of oil patterns from medium-light to medium-heavy oil, never or hardly ever true heavy oil. The V2 Strong was designed for true heavy oil: super strong particle coverstock.

The V2 particle, another ball I would have loved to try.

I'm not a drilling Guru by any means, but I would think for heavy oil a person would drill it "stacked leverage." However, this type of thing is not my speciality by any means.

thanks very much for the reply charlest. Would you suggest getting the v2 strong for a heavy oil flat pattern instead of the v2 particle?

addik, it always seems that what works for one person doesn't always work for another and etc. I'm not really the right person to advise someone else on drillings, unless their style and profile are similar to mine. I think also that it depends on "how much hand" a person has. I don't have a lot of hand, so shorter Pins in the 2" to 3" range and stronger drillings work best for me. I haven't tried leverage since the Urethane days because I don't see that much oil for reactives where I bowl. Back then I used Leverage almost all of the time. Label drillings with Pin beside ring finger and CG about 1/2" to 1" out from grip line and Pin under and past ringer finger touching bridge and CG kicked out 1 1/2" works best for me. Depending how much oil is in midlane, I oft times need help getting the ball to rev up, so the Pin under works well there for me.

A lot of people loved it, but the V2 Particle was a dud for me.  Revved up really well, but wouldn't bite on anything more than medium oil.  Similar drilling that's on my Animal now, so I doubt that was the problem.  I have a spinner and tried it pretty dull to real shiny.  I've seen some people that throw similar to me make the V2 Strong look good on heavy shots.  There are lots of good oilers from other companies, but the V2 Strong is probably the best choice in Ebonite's line.

Most definitely! Medium-heavy, at the least.
