Ebonite Cyclone GB - Private run
« on: February 15, 2015, 11:48:01 AM »
Got this drilled to roll early to be a control ball for med/hvy to med. conditions.

Threw it on house shot and what a beautiful controlled arc. OOB 2000 grit.

16-21 strikes, 4 ringing 10's, final ball was one 4-7 (I missed left a bit). This thing hits like a tank.

I loved it so much, I just ordered another to drill pin up and throw on some polish.

Price also has been reduced from $99.99 to $79.99.

Charlest,

In my post I noted 4 balls.  I am confused which one you are noting as higher rg.

From my memory I note the Freakin as the highest RG I believe.  If that is what you are referring to I agree!  It moves later.

As to speed of move when friction acknowledged, I see the Cyclone(pearly) and the Freakin as very fast.  I see the Gamebreaker and Reign of Power as smooth.  Both sets of balls have a different rgs.  But in my eyes similar type coverstocks and speed of movements.

Let me know your thoughts.

Regards,

Luckylefty
PS any more observations on the Solid Cyclone and the Gamebreaker 2 as far as shape of move?

Lucky,

You are also talking about two balls with totally different surface preps.  The GB2 is 500-2000 while the Cyclone is 4000-FF.  Combine that with the difference in cores between those two balls and that can explain the difference in reaction you are seeing.

Ebonite has a history of saying whether or not the GB series of covers are pearl or not.  The One had GB 10.7 while the Angular One had GB 12.7 Pearl.  The only case I can find of a GB 10.7 ball being pearl is the One Pearl and it is in the name.

Also, the Cyclone line of balls is intended to appeal to a certain demographic.  Making it pearl-looking and pretty makes it more marketable and hopefully they will have good sales with the look.  Having it be a good all-around ball makes it marketable to the better bowlers so it is a win-win.

GB2 has RG of ~ 2.48; Cyclone has RG of ~2.53, a fairly large difference.
