Flexol coverstock..how good is it???
« on: March 03, 2011, 02:57:30 AM »
Wasn't impressed with the longivity of the GB covers. Great performers, but not lasting long.

So, I was wondering what to expect out of the new generation of Flexol covers.

So far, I'm loving the reaction I'm getting from it. But is my love fleeting or is it going to be long lasting??

Anybody have any expeirence with it??

Yes. it's I, the Inverted One..

A friend is a recent convert to EBI (last year +or so) and he does a LOT of bowling. He takes very good care of his bowling balls. Yes, he also likes the Flexol family a lot. I even tried the Magic Touch - very good ball. So far it seems to be part of the new family of resin Ebo is using, with the intention of their lasting longer than the previous ones (being less absorbent but still strong. I can't guarantee it, but they look promising.

Have had very good success with the Magic Touch, Action and Vital Sign. Have had the Touch and Action for a year or so and neither has lost reaction. Haven't had to Clean N Dull or bake either, but I do use a microfiber towel and clean before putting them back in the bag.

Vital Sign is a great one, versatile and hard hitting.

You shouldn't have any issue with this cover.

I bought my first Ebonite Ball in 15 years, a Vital Sign that now has 50-60 games on it and it's still going strong. Clean it after every set, other than that I haven't had to touch it. I know in the past some people had Ebonite balls that died after this few games so I take it as a good sign it's still going strong.

I hit some very oily conditions recently with it for a few sets in a row that I thought would put the longevity issue to the test, or at the very least I'd have to touch the ball up with an abralon pad afterwards. That wasn't the case, it held up fine. Based on my early experience I think the Flexol covers have the potential to be a long lasting cover but won't know for sure until I hit that 150-200 game mark with it.

Sorry for the slight hijack here. I will say the Vital Sign is a very underrated ball. I wouldn't have even considered it until I threw it and a few other balls from Storm, Brunswick and Track that my pro shop guy drilled up for people to try. I knew Ebonite had the reputation about the longevity of their covers and this worried me, but the ball reaction of the Vital Sign was too good so I decided to take the "risk" and hope the cover would last. So far it's held up fine with no noticeable loss in performance.

I also purchased my first Ebonite ball which was the Vital Sign late last year and it has a tremendous roll to it. It has the ability to come make it back to the pocket if I miss right. I use it as my heavy oil ball. So far I have not been let down by it. Carlos

I had heard that the Vital Sign was an under-rated ball, yet a top notch performer and Icame really-really close to getting a Vital Sign, but opted for the original Mission since it had a proven track record. I have been overly happy with the Mission so far. It appears from the postings here that I may have beeen just as happy with the Vital Sign also.

In addition I purchased the Game On right after getting the Mission and again I am overly happy with it so far also. It is a perfect fit for a ball just below the Mission. When the lane conditions tell me to put the Mission back into my bag, the Game On comes out and performs really great.

I'm wondering how the Traxion cover on the Game On holds up, does anyone know?
