Gamebreaker Asym and PUMA!!!!
« on: June 16, 2021, 11:21:16 AM »
Ebonite is releasing the first asymmetric Gamebreaker. The first mid priced asym to compete with the Rubicons.  I may be even more excited about seeing the PUMA being released.  It is going to be in the same price point as the Stinger.  But with the release of the PUMA, who is to say we dont see more of the animal balls released in the future.  If the Panther is released, I for one am jumping all over it.

Oh man, the Puma.  I had one of the original Pumas and absolutely loved it.  Might need to pick up one of the new ones.

Now, if we could just get the Red Wolf Pearl back.

Was excited about the Puma till seeing the core. Unfortunately it is not anywhere near the original core. More of a modified Brunswick Stinger core which is also nothing like the original Stinger.

Makes you wonder why they bother bringing out the name if they cant match the core to the original unless they think the cover can somehow make up for the difference.

  • I have a name, therefore no preferred pronouns.

Probably running out of ideas for new names.

Like Ford naming their new pick-up Maverick.

"If you don't stand for our flag, then don't expect me to give a damn about your feelings."

The only issue in recreating those specific cores would be cost vs value.  The Puma and Stinger are lower price point bowling balls so it's easier to slap a name and the cover on any generic core and run it out onto the market. The original cores were two pucks for the stinger and bulb with a puck on top for the Puma.

The Kinect  and the Vibe are no brainers to use the actual core on because the ball is going to be in the product line indefinitely.

Not for nothing, but I don't know if you can truly blame Brunswick for that. I mean, could the same have been said for EBI when they re-released the U2, the Beast, or the Impulse? Granted, a lot of those were originally 2-piece balls, but when they remade them, they were nothing like the original.

Same goes for the Blue Hammer remake: It had the Vibe core, which was nothing like the original core that Faball had in it; or the Burgundy Hammer remake, which was reactive, not urethane.

My point: they are regurgitating names all over the place, while not having the same specs as the original ball. I lost track of how many Black Widows and The Ones EBI/Hammer kept going with overseas while we went Taboo/First Blood/Gamebreaker, etc. While they kept with the original specs for those balls, they kept using the name over and over.

My point here is that it could be that while they have the rights to the name, they may not have the rights to the science that went into the ball (which I'm a bit miffed about myself, but like I can do anything about it)..

That said, I've seen the GB Asym in use on the JPBA.. It's a great piece to ball down to when the GB4 burns up all of its energy as it exits the pattern, but for me personally, I'm happy with my Silver Widow.
