That type of drill should maximize the ammount of flare that you'll get out of the ball. If your going to get the ball for heavier oil, I would suggest lowering the pin a bit, to like 2 1/2" or so.
As far as micbowl saying that the ball doesn't hit, and doesn't hook that much, these are subjective impressions. My gamebreaker, which I just drilled, is pretty strong and hits very well. The core that's in the ball is quite rolly, and if you try to play in without a higher rev rate, the ball really won't change direction very rapidly, and you may leave a few flat tens. I personally tend to stick with asyms when playing in, and I prefer symmetrical stuff in general when playing up the lane.
The Angular is a polished pearl, and without surface changes, it won't suffice for most on longer patterns. For long patterns, this ball would be a great piece to start out with, but as carrydown sets in, a strong sanded pearl may be a better option.
