TPC Shooter
« on: October 08, 2005, 09:47:32 PM »
Can it be used on 32ft(light oil) wood lanes. I have approx. 300 rpms and and softer speed. And is this somewhere in between the V2 line and the High performance line(eg. Xcel, Instinct)?

Yes. I was able to use mine on wood only one time, but it felt very good and read the lane nicely. With your specs I'd suggest a length drilling: even though the ball is supposed to be usedon light to medium oil, it is pretty strong when it touches dry ground. You will probably be able to swing it across the whole lane, playing 3rd or even 4th arrow to getb it into the pocket.

The TPC balls were high perfomance balls, but from today's standard I'd rate them above mid-performance. I own the Shooter and the Player, as well as an Xxcel. If I take the Xxcel as a measure, then both are really 1 level "weaker", but not bad balls at all.
The Shooter could be a good alternative to the Xcel pearl, since many players struggle with it in box condition for control - and that's what the Shooter is good for when it is properly drilled.

Thanks all... But Waht's the Diff between the coverstocks? There is a darker purple version and a lighter one.

I am not sure. I have the older, light purple version, and it works fine for me on wood and synth with medium oil. It is 1.000 grit high gloss polish. When it is too dry, the ball will run off Brooklyn, but it is drilled quite strong.

Nominally, there should be no difference of the versions, although the reviews suggest that the later, darker version handles oil a bit better? But I am afraid that this will be hard to prove.

Hmmm, if mine was the XL cover I do NOT want to know what the regular cover would be... mine hooks like hell, a very strong midlane reaction. "Length" is nothing that comes directly to my mind... and that will be the reason why the XL was added. IMHO, the normal Shooter is simply too much for dry/light conditions. Nevertheless, great ball, e´ven though the early balls look like being made of bubblegum. Weird purple tone.

Besides, the XL has a different logo ("XL" added to the Shooter logo), as afr as I know. But the colors of the Shooter XL and early regular TPC Shoters must be the same - but I haven't seen a real-life XL yet, only cataloge pics.

The shooters I've seen the Shooter looked lighter purple.  The Shooter XL looked darker purple.

Interesting...went to Ebonite site.  They had in antique balls this length rating out of box
9.5  Player Trimax
16.8 Warrior  Big Wheel Pearl
Shooter like 17.5  Big Daddy polished
Shooter XL like 19 Big Daddy XL

I may be off by a smidgen of a decimal point.

REgards,

PS seems like a lot of hair splitting to me in the last 3.
I've seen the Shooter original in my house by a very good bowler and it looks great.  I've seen other so so bowlers with Wariior and it has looked real good maybe a touch more touchy to oil at break!

Encino...

Different drilling on Warrior or do you believe it is coverstock.

Same core on all TPC's ..right?

The Player is a pearl, too. Same coverstock base as the V2 Sanded.
