Should I drill another Total NV . Question
« on: March 02, 2007, 09:12:30 AM »
I really love the ball as i have it drilled with the number 3 layout.Ball really hooks with the 4000 grit and polish on it.Thing is that it hooks to late. I play a swing shot from 10 to about 3 and it just come in right behind head pin. What i like though is when it makes the move it takes off.I tried 1000 polish and the ball mellowed out.So i took it to 2000 polished and it is alittle better ,but it still doesn't snap the way it did when it was at 4000 polished. So should i  just drill up another total NV with factory 4000 grit polished with a different drilling. Maybe with the pin at a lower location to compensate the medium to heavy oil i bowl on. I know if i take the polish off the ball it will lose some of its stored energy. All suggestions welcome. Thanks Ben

I drilled mine pin under ring (4.5" from PAP), MB out 45 degrees, and put a crater in the thumb quad to get it legal (2" down on the VAL).

It picks up a little sooner with the pin down drill, yet it still makes a very angular move to the pocket with plenty of stored energy.

Last night was my first outing with this ball. I went 246, 213, 267.
I was not sure I would like the reaction of this ball ("skid-flip" and I do not usually get along!), but I am very happy with the way it rolls. I just hope the coverstock holds up better than other Ebonites in recent days.

My first one was drilled pin right of ring, cg stacked. If I ever pick up another, I think I'd put the Rico layout on it. I love my Overtime that way, and think it would really bring the TNV to life.

Just my .2

Drill another one with your favorite drilling but hit it with 2000 abralon.
Works wonders and picks up sooner than box finish without losing hit.

For the reaction you are after, you should get an Angular one, drilled the same way.

2000 without polish has worked great for alot of guys in this area. HIgher volumes of oil and longer patterns where you need the ball to read a bit sooner.

BOWLED ALRIGHT TODAY WITH THE 2000 POLISHED. SHOT 681, A COUPLE OF ARRENT SHOTS COST ME 730.ROLLED ALOT BETTER. Would like to try it with 2000 no polish, just to see what it will do.
