The first Total NV that I drilled does hook the most of the three that I have. In that, I mean that it handles heavier volumes of oil better than the other two. I just used it yesterday in a sport shot heavy oil tournament with a lot of success!
The most important factor in your bowling ball layout is pin position. The strength/weakness of your pin position is the predominant factor in your ball layout. Mass bias relationship in second, helping to determine the breakpoint shape in your ball reaction. 45 Degree layouts typically roll a little earlier and have smoother breakpoints than 90 degree layouts. CG position is negligible with regards to your ball reaction.
Another reason that first Total NV hooks so much for me is the 2000 Abralon surface. Ball surface plays a huge factor in the way a bowling ball senses friction.
Your decision to purchase another Total NV versus a different polished ball is far more complicated than can possibly be described on a message board. A Whirlwind is a great ball shape in my opinion, but it will be significantly less than a Total NV. As a person that carries multiple Total NVs right now, I can tell you that layout and surface preparation can give you distinctly different looks that are easy to transition to. It's really up to your comfortability with your ball reaction and your ability to make fine adjustments.
Hope this helps you out!
