Denver and Ice go together!
« on: December 06, 2004, 08:08:32 AM »
Was a little intriqued by the Use of the ICE by Tommy Jones at the Denver open.

I mean I don't bowl on a sport condition but I though that pattern was the piece of crap pattern I bowl on in my local leagues.

Very thin oil and squirely.  What Brian Voss went thru with the Titan is exactly what I go thru with my Vortex Pearl and Tommy went thru with his V2 Sweet(V2 pearl again in my opinion).

The Ice was a nice solution for Tommy!  I have used the Roto Sonic Boom at times and been real pleased!  Think there is much difference?  I note specs on 15s are almost the same!  However I've always been intriqued by that Stinger elliptical core in the ICE.

Opinions?

I expect less midlane from the ice(just where our pattern is grabby) right after the head oil.  Unless you are righty then use your Titan or Triple X all day!

REgards,

PS the pattern is sort of long and recently a friend of mine on the left has finally found what he thought was the answer to not have to rifle it or aim away from the pocket(lefties can't carry on this shot aiming away for whatever reason, on this pattern if you swing you ping).
X factor original with pin over bridge!)

my teammate(also a lefty, HA) throws his when the left side is burn too much for his v2 clean and new standard and for when his fire gets overunder.  I've described the reaction as "reacts in the dirt(dry) like an old man turning a corner on a sunday drive"

not really flippy(which is good if your playing in the dirt) but does get WAY down the lane and to the pocket. vs. the fire which flips hard on the backend due to the high differential and polished cover

what i was seeing on the telecast was how it is when the teammate is throwing it(he doesnt play deep like tommy though).  Just when you think its going to take off and go threw the nose it drifts a little bit further down the lane and makes a nice slow move to the pocket

I just ordered an Ice from Buddies and a Deal.  I love the way that ball looks in transition.  Looks like it's stronger than a Stinger Low Flare(Trimax Pearl vs. Detonator Pearl), but under a V2 Clean/Sweet which is what I'm looking for.  I don't think I'll try anything fancy with drilling, probaly just a pin stack under the ring finger and a slight surface adjustment.

Oh boy!

From PBA forum

 Yo here's what I see.
A bunch of color blind observers!

First game
V2 Sweet

Then....
Xcel PEarl ... no that's not it!
http://www.bowlingballreviews.com/ball.asp?ballid=2517
V2 Strong R... hmmmm that's not it either!
http://www.bowlingballreviews.com/ball.asp?ballid=2495

Oh maybe it's this!?
Ice
http://www.bowlingballreviews.com/ball.asp?ballid=2339
Which looks surprisingly like this! Inside that is!
Stinger low flare pearl
http://www.bowlingballreviews.com/ball.asp?ballid=1405

This is not the first time I've seen an Ebo staffer go from
V2 low rg strong flare stuff to a Stinger and win!

Chris Hayden did that two years ago in his win.
And Mika used this same core in particle to shoot his 300 last year on TV.

Smart play by Chris, Mika, and Tommy today!

REgards,

Luckylefty
PS Chaneleon pattern!!! That looks just like my league on the left.
Nice shot maybe for a game then poof, low flare stuff is a must!
PPS Hey that ICE gives me an IDEA!

I personally thought it was the first V2 pearl with a weaker pin position. All the ice's we have seen so far around here tended to be a bit more silver colored. I also thought maybe the SLF but that has a big label on the side and I did not see that but it might have been. If it is the SLF then every ebonite staffer that has made the show this year has used the SLF in one cover or another.

Then give them to me because the case we ordered for one of the shops must be "seconds". LOL
