Help with picking out a new ball please.
« on: May 21, 2019, 01:34:15 PM »
I want to replace my GB-3 Pearl which just does not work for me even after trying several surface changes.  Too much over and under.  Want to stay in the Ebonite family.  I am looking for something that is strong enough to allow me a little miss area to the right when playing inside.  Down and in shots don't work well for me in this house. The lanes I'm bowling on are on the lighter side of medium but not bone dry.  I am presently using the Destiny Solid and Hybrid.  The Hybrid is almost what I'm looking for but need something just a little stronger.  I think I need to stay in the pearl or polished covers. I also have an Ebonite Warrior Elite (way too strong) and a Columbia Sideswipe Solid that I don't want to mess with.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The natural selections in the EBI family would be the GB3 Pearl or Rebel Yell at the moment for what you're asking about.

Have you thought about going a step down instead to get a little more length and more backend? The lighter side of medium is where the Vibe series shines, especially the Blue and Cherry

Maybe my post was not clear, but I already have the GB-3Pearl and it does not work for me.  I also have both the Destiny Solid and Hybrid which, I think, are very close to the Vibe series.  I'm looking for something stronger than the Destiny's and along the lines of the GB-3 Pearl but a different ball.  You mentioned the Rebel Yell which I'll look into if it hasn't been discontinued.  Thanks for the answer to my post.

Don't sleep on the Vibes.  Some good balls with a great price.

Your post was clear.

I'm suggesting that if the GB3 Pearl was still too over/under after experimenting with surface changes, maybe a cover that provides a little more length and backend would be a better answer to your question.

You've mentioned you're a lower speed senior. My first recommendation is always weaker. The lower speed seniors I've helped can't go to a stronger ball unless there's actually oil. Otherwise they get over hook or roll out if missed into the dry

I understand, so if I go weaker, what would you recommend?  I already have the two Destiny's so what would be weaker than those?  Would that be the Vibes?

Yes. The Blue Vibe and Cherry Vibe are known to be weaker than the GB 10.7 cover, the Destiny series uses GB 11.2

Thank you.  The Cherry may be more of what I'm looking for and it looks to be more of a skid/flip.  Correct me if I'm wrong.  Do you think the Rhodman Pearl would be a good replacement for the GB-3 Pearl?

The Cherry is considered to be the fliipiest of the bunch. I believe the Rhodman Pearl and GB3 Pearl are fairly similar, but the Rhodman has definitely received more praise

I'd wait for ball expo, maybe you'll see some pearl versions of balls.

Like a Triton pearl, or tactix pearl,

In my opinion, check out one of the shiny polished kinetics.  That core rolls really well, and the covers aren't too too strong either. I used to throw the kinetic pearl way back when, it carried as good as my HP stuff but was more useable and I didn't need to bag it ever haha.
In the bag [Infinite Physix, Volatility Torque, Night Road, Phaze III, Burner Solid, Hustle AU]
*Now Testing* IQ Ruby, Renevant, another IQ Tour solid
Coming soon...???

My thought would be a Flawless, between the Vibes and the Rhodman Pearl.

Of course it would seem like a Web Tour Pearl would be a no-brainer, but they have yet to come out with one  :P

Try a Kinetic Amethyst. Its a hair stronger than the Destiny's and a little more Consistent with its lower RG numbers. The cover is on the weaker side but definitely a great piece for the medium/drier side of the spectrum.
