How many times may the Hook Again process be used on a single bowling ball?
IE.. Since this process removes some surface plasticiser, does it/can it ultimately change the surface composition?
-
The product DOES work...but to varying degrees depending on the ball and how bad it is going in.
I won't claim to know how many times a particular ball can go through the treatment process though? Maybe an e-mail to Ebonite would serve you best to get the answer you are looking for...
...just at thought!

Mr Hickland,
You mention Hook Again does not damage bowling balls unlike other methods. What basis is there for a statement like that? I seem to remember that Ebonite was testing how heat affects the coverstock material. Any results yet you want to share with us?

kmitch,
Thanks for the feedback. I have had both good and bad experiences using heat to revive bowling balls; hence the question to Mr Hickland. I think he mentioned that Ebonite is looking into how heat affects bowling balls in an earlier post. With Brunswick advocating heat the way they do and Ebonite doing what looks like the opposite, more information is needed.

Ronald,
I also received an answer back from Ebonite Tech Support and was told no less than 6 times I could expect to safely give a ball the Hook Again treatment. But more than this, they did not know.
When you say heat can have adverse effects on a bowling ball. Does that include the heat from soaking one's bowling ball in Hot Tap water and Dawn? Or would the heat you're talking about be more in the 200+ degree range?
Thanks for your input.

Hmmmmm. I think I will just stay with Neo Tac's "Hook-It." Has worked well for me so far on Lane 1, Ebonite, and Brunswick. Haven't tried it on Storm yet.

Ronald,
Thank you for the update! Will you put a presentation of these findings on the Ebonite website when you have made them official at the Expo?

Ronald,
Thanks for the advice on not using a bucket of Water and Dawn to soak a ball in.
Live and learn, I suppose. Now if I can only find a way to get the water back out of my bowling ball.
Hmmm, under heat water turns to vapor. So I suppose I could just heat the ball... lol
But seriously... would something like 'oil dry' or even kitty litter help to extract the water (or even oil) from a ball?
Thanks again.

Ronald,
Thanks for giving us a preview.
I dip my bowling balls in a bucket of warm water every now and then when I am renovating them or adjusting their surfaces. Dry with a towel after each dip. I like the dry feel the coverstock gets after three or four immersions in the warm water. I take care never to do warm water saoking if the bowling balls are below room temperature, and I don't use them on the lanes the same day.

Ronald,
In an earlier post in this thread you mentioned that you would be presenting some research findings about the effect of heat on coverstocks at Bowl Expo. How did the presentation go? Any chance of getting access to some of these findings?

Bowldoc,
Thanks for the input! I have also found low heat to be useful and without any bad effects. But I've never tried low heat and Hook Again in the same treatment. Interesting!
