How long will last the TNV Coverstock
« on: February 14, 2007, 02:15:16 AM »
Hello to everyone, i was wondering about how many games a TNV can take till its "done". How many games you got till now on it? What is your cleaning routine?

You should probably table this question for a few months. You'll get a better response.

I have used mine for around 30 games and I clean it everytime I use it with ebonite powerhouse cleaner and have noticed no loss of reaction at all on the ball..

I Pay my dues to this jls31316. Better Coverstock need better maintenance. Thats clear after loosing a Infinite One to my own stupidity. I am asking because i already hear about dying TNVs. No offense, I don't claim its the Ebonites fault.

why spend
$7.95 on a cleaner, and maybe $4.00 on a abralon pad, when you can simply buy a new ball every 4-5 months????

jls, for people like myself that are retired and on "Fixed Income", that is not an option so we are forced to buy the cleaner and a pad.

i totally agree with you.  sometimes the problem with these new balls is that the customer can not duplicate the box finish.  thus he loses the box finish reaction.

example>>> the tnv is a 4000 abralon pad finish with their polish on it.
the only way one can dupicate this is to start with a 500 pad, and go thru all the steps> 1000, 2000, and 4000 pad, and then polish.

now most people do not do this.   at best,  they may clean it and re polish, or they may even clean it, hit it with the 4000 pad and re polish it.
but honestly,  how many will take the time to go thru all the steps???

even bowlers that i know that have ball spinners,  don't always go through all the steps.

also,  the 4000 pad finish with polish may not always be suited for every bowler or their needs.  some may need to bring the cover down if they are in too much oil.

and after so many games,  30-50,  it really helps to have the oil drawn out of ones ball. just cleaning the surface and re sanding or polishing is not always enough.

customer's can go to a good hardware store and buy a bag of oil dry.  fill up  a bucket with it,  and place your ball in there for a day or two.  it will draw the oil out of your ball.  and then simply do your normal coverstock care.

brickguy,   i was making a point about many of todays bowlers.   basically they are lazy when it comes to cleaning their balls.  and think nothing about buying a new ball.

this person i mentioned,  had never cleaned his balls,  and when he told me this,  i said to him,  bring the ball in and we will clean it and draw the oil out of it and resand it.

he said,  "drill me up a new ball that hooks"

ok!!!!!!!!!!!!!

jls, I understand. I was mostly kidding/having fun with you, although there is some truth behind what I said.

JLS your in Indiana correct? Haha, man it seems like this is the most snow I have ever seen in my life in this state. My parents mentioned the blizzard for '78, but I was not born then haha.

But I believe all rumors are wrong on this ball about it dying. Simple cleaning and doing things to the ball regularly is what keeps the ball new and refreshed. It's like us getting a shower, if we don't we stink and drag as* the next day.

the crank,   in ill.  the storms of 78-79 were bad,  but nothing was as bad as jan 26-27, 1967.

and you are 100 % right,  in most cases if you keep the ball clean and do normal maintence on it,  the cover will last.

of course that means that one must put down the beer one is holding,  to proberly clean their ball.   and for some>>> that's a problem.

I usually just take ball over to a friends pro shop and he rejuvs it,which sucks all that oil out of it. Then he sands and polishes.Cost 20 bucks or so.No big deal.So when the ball starts going to long and the reaction gets weak , time to take it in. Usually ,Every few weeks i have this done>

Ball care maintenance on the Total NV is no different than what was recommended on the One series.  Simply clean the ball with an oil-free towel and Ebonite Powerhouse Energizer cleaner after each use.

Sorry it's been so long for me everyone!  I've been quite busy of late.  It's good to be back.

just the other day,  a bowler bought a new ball because his previous ball stopped hooking. { bought in oct. 06.}  on his first nite with the new ball
he shot 693.  and was a happy camper.    { bowls in 3 leagues }

he never ever cleaned or sanded or did anything to his old ball.  why spend
$7.95 on a cleaner, and maybe $4.00 on a abralon pad, when you can simply buy a new ball every 4-5 months????

makes no sense to me,  but if that's what they want to do,  so be it.

You actually make a good point.  If one goes thru bowling balls that fast then why spend the money on the cleaner.  In fact you could proabbly just get by with hot water baths for the bowling balls.

Although this is true it is not the only reason. Nobody takes better care of equipment than I do. I have had numerous balls die.
