question about the TJ "trick" layout
« on: February 07, 2007, 04:00:48 PM »
In the vid, he says pin 4-1/2" from PAP & 1 in from VAL, MB at 90º.  He then measures 1" from the pin in a "circle" & measures 5-5/8" out from the MB in a 90º angle from the line from the pin to the MB....how did he come up with that 5-5/8" measurement when TJs pap is 5" over?

Also, the angle from the PAP to the pin to the MB doesnt seem like its actually 90º to me, seems closer to 75º.

Maybe im just losing it, or maybe its all the drugs from my massive cold/flu/bronchitis.

could someone please explain this to me?

Use2begood, go to the ebonite website. click on layouts and then it will give you an option to click to see videos and that will let you look at basic layouts as well as the rep mapping out a trick layout. he explains things pretty well. hope this helps.

I've been wanting to try this layout, but I'm afraid it will go to long and not recover. Any suggestions on what ball(ANY BRAND) to use it on?

Rev O, i have my trick layout on a total nv and it works great. if you are not a high rev player, then you can adjust the mass bias accordingly so that it will rev just a little sooner. i am not a high rev player either and mine works great. i have used it on synthetics on a longer pattern and on guardian which had a wet/dry pattern and the ball rolled well on both of them. miine is out of box condition, but not sure how the mass bias was placed. will talk to the person who layed mine out and will let you know. you can always tweak the surface too. hit the ball with a 2000 or 4000 abralon pad, so that the ball will still get down lane, but not quite as far as the out of box surface. hope this helps.

I have 2 balls with similar layouts. The big one(ball) I use on my monday nite, it has a longer with med. oil pattern.I also have a reaction rip I use on tuesday nite, short an lite oil pattern.I look for balls with 2oz. or less top weight, which can take alittle time to find, but I found. With less top weight no weight hole is needed. You get good length and good reaction on backend. What I like better is the carry Ive gotten with these's layouts. The balls retain alot more energy at the pin deck.Great layouts!

so no one really knows?  From watching the video again, it looks like at the end when he says MB at 90º he is pointing from the thumb hole up to the MB.  Is there any possible way that his 90º MB is in relation to the thumb hole?

Even if this is true, that would mean that the 5-5/8" number still has to come from somewhere....
