Ice or Killer Instinct Pearl ???
« on: September 16, 2005, 12:28:36 AM »
Which should i use, i like to open up, i stand about 20-25. Lots of rev and slow ball speed. I need a ball for dry lanes, 32-35 ft oil, dry lanes.

Ok Ice = Low Flare core mmedium pearl cover.  Killer = garbage but also high flare core medium pearl cover so Ice is much better because of the low flare and is good on dry.  Out of box the black ice actually hooks less than the reg ice because it so highly polished.

I would suggest the Ice, but probably adding a light coat of polish, Diamond Gloss if you can find some where you are. That stuff is great...

I have a label leverage Ice polished to 2000 grit and it can open up the lanes well on anything dry.

OH ya, sorry but forgot to add that i want to have a controlled arc, not really a SS reaction. (got too many balls to do that)

Ice is a controlled readble arc. The Fire is the skid/snap ball of the element line.

The ice is not all that controllable on true dry.  Drilled mine pin over ring cg stacked it gets down the lane but turns very hard, not too smooth.  The desert Heat is a better dry lane ball I think.  The Killer was a bowler specific ball, many hated it many well some like it.

Ice is pretty smooth for me on Medium to Light conditions. On dry it hooks to early and hits weak.

Hope this helps

xwenhan,

As others have already said....and I'm sure you suspect....the Ice is the ball you want, with a tad bit of polish!

However, I have to disagree with those who say the KI pearl was junk! It's all about the operator! That is not a true pearl. It is pearlized, but I look at it as a strong medium oil ball. It gives great carry, and I have scored well with it in many tournaments, especially Carolier lanes in N.J.

The core in it is unique, and very continuous. This is NOT a ball that needs a lot of revs. Nuff said.

Have to agree with Jesse James. The KI series was not all that it was hyped to be, but it wasn't bad either. The sanded is a great medium condition ball and the pearl is nice for playing up the oil line on mediums. I've seen both used to score quite well when prepped properly and thrown on the right conditions. Again, they were not the outstanding balls that Ebonite touted them to be, but they were not at all bad.
