Infinite One issues
« on: September 25, 2006, 11:16:31 PM »
I just got this ball about a month ago and it just will not hook. I have had it at oob finish and 360 grit and it still will not hook. I don't think that its rolling out, cause i just went a bowled a tournament and everyone was throwing it. I'm going to put polish on it. But i could use some input on what to do with this ball.

I think you may have it laid too strong and it is flaring out on you. If the ball is done flaring by midlane there is nothing left to make it turn the corner. What layout did you use? Rev rate? Ball speed? Conditions?

My Infinite hooks a ton. I actually had to take it to 1000 with light polish. Entirely to strong out of box for normal house conditions. The ball rolls and hits great just need to find the right surface.

Storm8300 are you kidding?? THE ONE is arguably the best ball to come out in years. Look at how well Tommy Jones and Patrick Allen did with it, oh I should also mention Jason Couch. I have the One and I love it!! my averaged went up because of how much it moves and how well it hits. Storm balls hit like Marshmallows!! Ebonite puts out much better balls.

IMHO, it's more like matching ball to bowlers..a particular ball might be the best ball and may work for the majority but may not for some...another example of such a ball is the Radical Inferno..

The cover on this ball is very strong and I'd agree that for most bowlers and most house conditions, this ball is better left in the bag.  As previously stated, we'll need more information: Speed?  Rev-rate?  Layout?.  If it has a strong layout and you're throwing it up the track area on wood lanes, the ball will likely be dead five feet after the arrows, regardless of whether or not "everyone was throwing it".

Changing the surface may help some, but if you're using it on the wrong conditions, even surface changes may not be enough.

how could any ball at 360 grit not hook? if this thread is not a joke then what you need to do is have the guy who drilled the ball watch you bowl, then make a determination on what he feels is best for your game.

I agree with Paul. Its all about matchup.I have drilled alot of Infinite Ones for my customers and never had a negative report. We have had to alter surfaces and size and location of weight holes.I would go to a proshop in your area and have them watch you throw the ball and see whats going on.There is always a reason a ball is not performing. If the shop needs for technical help you can contact Ron Hickland at Ebonite.

I have tried alot of equipment I mean every company I threw. I currently own an Infinite One and I must say im shocked to hear that it doesn't hook. For me it's hard to keep it on the right side of the lane so it stays in the bag most of the time. If your playing on a ton of oil always remember straighter is greater. If you can find one try a GP2 or maybe even an Action. Both of those balls were very strong for me. How's your IO layed out?

Many people "over hook" their balls...let me explain...

1. they choose a ball that's too aggressive
2. they don't know their axis specs and cannot accurately lay out the ball
3. they put too aggressive of a layout on the ball
4. they put too aggressive of a surface on the ball

I have thrown an Infinite One and cannot for the life of me figure out how that ball won't hook. I mean even with the pin over the bridge (typically a length drilling) the ball hooks every bit as much as, if not more than, my Super Carbide Bomb.

Let us know what your specs are and what the ball is laid out like as well as the lane condition you are throwing on. Then we can help you.
