I KILLED MY MISSION, but.....
« on: April 12, 2010, 05:42:48 AM »
was able to get it back, thank goodness.

Got the ball with a 2000ab finish on it, but that was quite strong, so I decided to put a light polish job on it. Helped it greatly, but it was still pretty strong, so I put a heavy polish job on it.

Ball went straight, blew right through the breakpoint, and hit the 6 pin square in the face. Moved my feet 5 right (I'm a righty) but again, the ball missed the breakpoint. Now, I'm lined up playing down and in over the ten board, but the ball hit very weakly, deflected badly, and left me the 8-10 split.

Still thinking it must be ME, I continued to throw it. Two frames later, it hits weakly, deflects badly, and leaves me the 5-7 split. That was enough, so I put it away.

After league was over, I hit it with a 4000ab pad, but it had little effect, so I went into the shop and used their degreaser to remove the polish, then hit it with a fresh 4000ab pad. This seemed to do the trick.

Now, it is just a couple boards milder than before, but it does read the breakpoint, and it does have that "hit" back that it had before.

Moral of this story is, careful with the polish on this ball. It seemed to make more difference on this ball than anything else I've messed with lately, and can actually turn this ball into a spare ball if you're not careful.

I don't have a Mission but I did the same thing, seemed to kill my Gargoyle and Crimson with too much polish.

Not too much, just the wrong  polish.

Hopefully after the trip to the shop the surfaces are back to normal.

Took the GG up from 500, 1000, 2000, 3000 and polish (OOB is 1500grit polished)

Took the CE up from 500, 1000, 2000 and polish for a bit stronger rolling ball.

Hope these polishes are very light, if not by hand, as a first take.

Snake Oil by hand first, maybe by spinner depending on results.

I have 2 missions, one stacked with box finish and the other pin over fingers with ebo factory finish.  Both balls work very well if used on the intended lane condition.  The one that is polished can come back from almost anywhere on the lane.

Obviously we are bowling on different lane conditions, but polish only enhanced the reaction for me. (longer and stronger)

It did for me as well, until I OVER polished it.  Guess I had the cover too smooth.

I have the apposite

I have drilled my mission strong for some olie lanes OOB finish, and i have no reaction at all.
So i have slightly polish the ball and there was a little reaction, but not what i wanted.
Then my brother have polished the ball en now i have a smooth reaction, but still not what I'm looking for.

I've seen the reaction by other people and the ball is very strong, and hits like a truck, and my ball is weak instead.

I think i'm going to 4000ab and see what he does or playing medium lane condition.
Maybe the drilling is to strong and it lose his energie.

Here is a photo of mine mission.

My pap is 5" over 1/2" up
around the 400 rpm i think
You can see me throw a ball here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=soQPnbCdCNo

if anyone have tips, i would like to hear it

bowler82,

Your ball is, in my opinion, drilled too darned strong, especially given your rev rate. It''s the equivalent of "stacked leverage" for a strng mass bias ball. Given the ball''s design and your rev rate, that ball is for heavy oil and if you''re not seeing it, it''s probably burning up all its energy.

I''d try another drilling at a minimum.

This may not apply to all bowlers, but my experience has always been where after I apply a heavy coat of polish to a ball, it takes longer than a couple of frames to get a reaction of any type.  Even though you are not getting much flare, it will take a while to get to a point where you are contacting coverstock with polish as oppose to just contacting polish on the lane.

If you feel you have to have polish, as oppose to 4000 with no polish, give the ball more than a couple of frames before you pass judgement.

But like I said, this is my experience and may not be yours.  I am a little weird.

@ charlest
I think your right, about the drilling. I wanted a bal for heavy oil and this is a bal for medium-heavy so i thought, if i drill it strong it will work....now i know it's not.

If i redril it, i think the holes the refill are over my track then, i don't know if that shall work.

@ spmcgivern

I think you're also right. You have to be patient with that and not always judge so quickly.

I'll give it an other chance and if that doesn't work maybe i'll go to 4000

It's such a small precenatge of the track considering it only rolls over that for a short time, then flares a lot. Since you are uncertain what will work, this may be the perfect time to experiment.

4000 won't be as flippy as polish but will allow more length. Backend might be sharper but not sharp.

Good luck.
