At Track, we just had the 5.0 last month, the Desert and Blue Heat this month/July, and the new Rule and Arsenal reactive that will be out (my guess) is before the season starts, so total, 5 balls over the summer.
From a bowlers standpoint, I like options. I would like to see a ball I purchased last year still in the catalog this year.
From the pro shop owner standpoint, I like less releases over a period of time as you don't have to carry as much stuff. Many customers are on the spot buyers, meaning they decide to buy a ball while in the shop, and they did not 100% mean to buy one when they came to see you, so you need stuff on hand. Granted, I have 3 distributors, one of which I can have stuff at my doorstep the following day. so that helps stocking issues as well. If company X comes out with X # of balls per year, and company Y comes out with the same number of releases, but a few at a time, what does it matter? Well....
Some bowlers like the newest thing on the market, in their head (and I was one of them when I was younger, I bought a new ball almost every week, sometimes more)I wanted the newest ball on the market. I did not want a ball that was introduced 4 months ago....just the mindset of bowlers when they are spending upwards of $200 nowadays.
I see positives about both ways, and negatives with both ways. I also know I didn't get to where I am today because I was a follower, but I was a leader and tried to do stuff others did not because nobody else had tried to do so.
