how is it drilled? is there really enough head oil for this ball to retain energy at the pins?

In my opinion, it lacks the hit because you went too far from the Messenger pearl, a medium-light oil ball, to the V2 Strong, a heavy oil ball. There are many balls in between these two that would have been more appropriate. If you don't want to buy such a ball, you may polish the V2 up a bit to help it retain more energy, skid a little further before biting the lane and hooking. Based on your description, I have little doubt that the ball is grabbing the lane far too early.

Solid 7 pins indicates it is not high enough in the pocket to carry; not truly flush, although it appears that way.

I hope your pro shop did to recommend this to you, based on the Messenger being too weak, not strong enough to handle the oil. If they did, I would not trust them any longer.

i currently bowl in two houses, league-wise. they are night and day. house #1 has very clean backends and a medium level of oiling, 10 to 10 block, which gets stripped nightly. house #2 is a ditch-to-ditch oiling, damn near a lake, and has lots of carrydown. house #2... the Messenger would not bite to save my life, and skids until damn near the pins. at house #1, the messenger loves the clean backends and will annihilate the pocket.

at house #2, the V2 grabs and goes, much to my delight. the standing 7 is frustrating for me. i have no issues picking it up but it is way too common of a leave for me to handle. i will bowl league in house #2 this evening, so we shall see how it reacts. i am going to vary my lines tonight, and see if i can find something with more entry into the pocket.

well we bowled the highest scratch scoring team in the entire league this evening. i was anticipating a good close game but it turned ugly!

in this house *the swamp*, i have a 133 average and a 61 pin handicap... tonight i went 156, 178, 199... we absolutely killed the team we rolled against, beating them 82 pins scratch and 245 pins handicap! i slowed the ball speed down some, and was able to move over 3 boards by the last game. the V2 was just decimating the pocket. i take back almost everything i said about this ball . i left 5 seven-pins over the 3 game set, but i picked them all off. all in all, i am really starting to appreciate this ball.
