Ebonite Powerhouse Everclear Ball Plug
« on: October 26, 2008, 12:05:06 AM »
I just picked up some of this product for the first time.  It says it takes about 8 hours to cure, but I'm finding that even 14 - 16 hours later the plugs are a little tacky and will dent with a jab with my thumbnail.  I'm using the 3 to 1 pumps so I'm pretty sure my mixture is good.  I'm also drying them in my home which I keep at 70 degrees.  Does anyone know if adding a touch more hardener will help?

Thanks!

If they cure to fast you could have some cracking issues. I use dba and in the summer I have these problems and actually use less hardener.

Bubbles rise to the suface really well with Powerhouse Everclear Ball Plug and I thought maybe the surface was just a little tacky because the bubbles were bringing stuff to the top.  I cut a plug this morning that I filled early yesterday afternoon and after cutting it down it still felt a little tacky on the surface.  At this point I'm wishing I would have bought the Tech-Line HD that I used before...had absolutely no problems with that but it was a bit more expensive.

check the pumps to may sure they are calibrated correctly.  I had the same issue before with the ebonite plug and it was the pumps.  The ebonite plug seems more sensitive to the ratio.

The pumps are getting up there in age...perhaps that's it.  Good idea to check the ratio.  Thanks.

For me the Ebonite stuff was WAY too sensative to everything. Stirring time - mix - temperature. I still have 1 bottle from the kit i bought that i keep around for clear balls because it does dry clear. Wioth the Tech-Line you can put it by a furnace duct to speed it's drying but the Ebo stuff turns to water. Worst plug I ever used!

PowerHouse is good plug material...however...I found if the temp gets a couple degrees off the "suggested" then it takes 14-18 hours. I get air bubbles in the mix but always watched it, time to time and found the bubbles all came to the top and never gave me any problems.

Last winter the heater shut down, on one of the coldest nights, and it took over 24 hours to cure. I now use TechLine, never had problems, easy to mix, color takes well with less drops, IMO, just a better material.

I was told that if I didn't like it I could have a refund/exchange but after contacting them, I was told it must be a temp problem and Ebonite would not exchange or refund, so it is back to TechLine for me.

To be fair, I might have gotten a bad batch, who knows but I don't like it, either.
