A friend bought a scorchin inferno and asked if i wanted a used big time (black) for free. He stated the ball was 6 months old and he didn't like it, wouldn't hook, said I could use it for my ten pins. Now seeing as my wife has one, I know it's a pretty good ball. So i figured I'd take it and see. Used for a game and I could see it had little reaction. gave it a hot water bath, had it resurfaced and threw it again last nite in practice with him. What a difference shot 253 the 215. He was a little upset that I revived the ball that he had given me for nothing. To make him feel better i told him it probably won't last long that usually once they die they die again even quicker. Anyway looks like a label leverage, don't have one in my bag with this drilling but it reads the lane well and then shoots left hard, didn't expect this out of a particle. This may bring me back to ebonite since i have been using only storm anf track as of late

do you even know what happens when you give balls hot water bath?? it may pull out "oil" BUT IT CAN PULL OUT PLASTECIZER (what makes balls hook). just givin ya a heads up.

I've done the hot water bath on all my stuff in the past, never had a problem. I didn't say that I boiled it in hot water. What i did do was use hot tap water, doesn't get hot enough to effect the plasticizers. And last i checked the plasticizers aren't what makes the ball hook. If the plasticizers come to the surface it clogs the pores thus hurting the reaction.

Actually, the plasticizer is what makes the urethane reactive.  In Ebonite's "Ball Death" theory, it's EXCESS plasticizer that comes to the surface, getting between the ball and the lane surface, and reducing friction.  I wish I remembered what makes the stuff come to the surface.  Anyhow, whatever you use to clean out the ball, be it hot water, a Revivor machine, or Ebonite's own "Hook Again," you're going to be removing the excess plasticizer, and the ball will still hook.

It's one of those weird materials sciences things.

I just clean mine with Ebonite Energizer Cleaner after use, and use a scotch brite pad every 25 games or so. The ball has 175 games and is still going strong when I pull it out of the bag. I agree that the Time series is very underrated! Have wanted to retire this ball but can't seem pull it out of the rotation. When all else fails, it really is the one for me!

I have two questions.  When you soak the balls, do you plug the holes?  If so, with what?

Next question.  How would you compare it to the oven treatment? Putting the oven on it's lowest temperature, putting the ball in for 30 seconds or so, then pulling it out and wiping the excess oil off.  Repeat.

I do not plug the holes, I know that some people do. I haven't had any problems though.  I haven't really tried the baking method but I would think that you would need something more than just wiping the ball after to get rid of the oil, something to break it down.

I look at it this way.. prior to the bath, the ball was basically useless (why it was given away free).  What is there to lose?  Worse case, you see no change in reaction.. LOL.  I own a rejuvanator and have never had a problem with removing oil...  I find that in some equipment, it really makes a huge difference.. in other equipment, no so much...but still better than before.
