Looking for something with a big backend...
« on: November 17, 2008, 01:45:18 PM »
Oh, and I'd like a ball that hooks a lot after about 45-50 feet too

Seriously, though. I really only care for Ebonite stuff, so I'm looking for something that will really go hard on the backend!

I've heard and seen the NVD and Complete NV...what else really hooks hard on the backend? The oil pattern was changed in our house, and I'm having to play straight up ten until they break down...(which I'm averaging 220 doing, so I'm not unhappy about it...but I'm just looking for something I can hook, increase my carry maybe).

I don't want anything lopey or uncontrollably flippy.

Here's my current set of balls:

Smash Time Solid (this is the closest I have)
Raid
The One
Playmaker
SR300
Infinite One (this is also very close, but I don't care for it...it's lopey)
Ice
Tornado

Not Ebonite:
Avalanche Pearl
Screamin Banshee
Radical Inferno
Total Inferno
Cell (thinking about getting this back out and trying it again)
Pyro
Enriched Uranium
Neptune (axis drill...don't like it at all)

I have a few more, I think, but I'm not sure what ones, and I'm too lazy to go look

So, feel free to suggest anything, but I'm really more likely to buy anything by Ebonite.

Well my playmaker was a complete savage on the backend, its just not a ball that I matched up well with as with my release I don't need any help on getting movement down lane. Besides the Playmaker i'd also nominate the Complete NV, but besides those two i'm not sure on the other Ebonite stuff, it has seemed to me as the Playmakers big brother, stronger overall, even on the backend which surprised me.

the playmaker is very angular. i dont know if you can go much more than that. my SR300 is pretty angular on fresh backends. the pinslasher may be a good choice. and if you want it to go longer you can just put some factory finish on it to make it the angular one cover instead of the dull angular one cover

If there is more Oil and you are playing straighter, you should want something that roll's earlier. How about an avalanche solid to match your pearl?

The gamebreaker is a piece that i don't see listed, but would be an excellent addition to your arsenal. Strong core, versatile coverstock u can't go wrong with this one. Another piece that is over looked is the raid, very angular piece with a strong pop in back which might be what you need.

I have the Raid. It's listed ^

Thanks for the replies so far guys...anyone else?

Also, I thought about this: I go for the mid-priced stuff because I have a higher rev-rate, and that works well...maybe it's time to get a high priced ball? I've neglected because I usually don't have the cash, and I don't ever really need such strong equipment. Maybe it's time to realize there's a hole in my arsenal there, break down, and buy the expensive stuff?

Light scuff on a Playmaker will be the ball.  Strong but controllable, stronger on backend then Smash Time solid

I'm more curious as to why you can't get that type of backend from several of the balls you already own: Raid, The One, SR300, Playmaker. With your rev rate, that shoudl be fairly easy, with the right drilling (something in the 5" range) and the right surface preparation. They are all very capable of getting/providing that reaction.

not ebonite but, momentum swing. Some people may not believe that, but, in my opinion, when I can pick up a ball, and no rev, DROP it and watch it turn big, that's impressive.

Momentum Swing is a great ball still in the Ebo family as well as I would suggest Hammers The Sauce.  If it must be Ebo though pick up a NVD.

As for the OP, have you tried googling "Jennifer Lopez Pics"?

Just wondering.

Striking Motion hasnt been mentioned yet, the Complete is a bear on the backend for me. The NVD wouldnt be a bad choice either. I'm all for Ebonite, but seems like the Cell Pearl is huge on the backend.

The one is dead, and the others work well when the lanes get to average med-heavy oil.

I'm talking about for conditions where I can't get those to turn. I want something really backendy. That's my general arsenal: those 4 balls, for a house shot, but these last few weeks...the oil's been heavier.
