rico drill on a black ice?
« on: November 20, 2008, 01:14:59 AM »
I have an older gent who plays straight up 10 board, slow speed, very accurate, with a little hook on the back end.  he currently has a black ice but is drilled pin above fingers and cg in center.  the ball tends to slide a long ways then hook and roll out in a short manner of distance. I think the drilling is not maybe what is best for his game.  if he moves a little inside then gets it out a little farther the hook and rollout happens so late it wont turn the corner. was thinking of trying a rico drill on the black ice to see if it would give him more midlane control and a smoother transition point instead of his current hook rollout.  is the black ice a good ball for rico?  and any opinions on the rico for a game like this.  he is a semi roller with some side turn and minimal revs.

In my opinion, the Black Ice is as good as any other ball for a Rico drilling, if the ball and the drill are appropriate. In this case, because you say his ball always rolls out, even with the current high pin, which would NORMALLY help a ball not to roll out.

If he gets any more midlane, the ball will roll out sooner than it does now.

Yes, Rico will add earlier hook and more reaction in the midlane.

My guess is since the BI has such good and easy natural length built into it, I'd suggest 2 options: 1. add some polish to the ball OR sand it finer and then add polish, and, 2, Due to the roll out, he needs a lighter weight ball.

I think you need to prevent the roll out first, before anything else.

I'm wondering if "roll out" is what you really mean. It usually means total loss of energy and the ball is going end over end, completely.
OR
do you just mean the ball is going thru the hook cycle or skid/hook/roll?
