NVD
« on: November 13, 2008, 01:25:30 AM »
I'm in the process of trading for an NVD and I was looking it over on a couple of sites and I found that it is listed on some sites as 4000 abralon sanded(buddies) and 2000 polished (bowling.com) So what is the surface on the NVD?

4000 grit. You know how some balls with 4000 grit are advertised medium to heavy and then you buy it and find out it meant for medium unless you change the surface. But not with this ball. On heavy oil condition this ball out hooks my Cell (1000 grit) and my Uprising (2000 grit). This is probably the strongest ball I ever bowled with. Imaginge if I drilled it strong and change the surface to 1000 grit. The only pattern I would use it on would be 50 feet of oil. This ball definitely needs alot of oil to shine. Do not use on mediums.

I tried the NVD last night in an Ebonite demo day.  It was the strongest of all their current releases, and about three boards total hook more than my Dimension.  However, I personally didn't like the motion.  It had a very angular breakpoint shape, and straightened out after it made its turn.  I don't tend to carry well with that kind of motion, it makes the ball way too condition-specific (which is why I don't carry my Total NV with me any more even though I have shot some great games with it).  I greatly preferred the motion of the Pin Slasher even though it was about three boards weaker than the NVD overall, it had a much more continuous motion down the lane even though it was still fairly strong down lane.

I threw a 4000 grit OOB NVD last weekend at a Demo Day and bought it immediatly. I was very impressed by the movement it made. I threw the Striking Motion and it was ok but not knocking my socks off. Could have been due to the balls being dirty. The Rep hit it with an Abralon pad to give it some surface. The reaction improved but I wanted more. I had the Proshop owner match me up w/ the NVD and the rest is history.

Used it this week in both leagues and it hit like a truck. I was able to move left and use it through 3 games on my 4 man night. Had to put it in the bag on 5-man by the middle of the 3rd. I am unable to play from corner to corner.
