I think I hit rock bottom of my bowling career. I can't spare, carry or come through in the clutch. I'm a 218 average bowler shooting sub 550 almost everynite for the past 2 months in my monday nite money league and I need help. any advise will help.

legends/lane masters.....what more do you need?

It's the end of the season, so burn out can always come into play.
Try a new ball or two to liven things up. New ball syndrom is always a good thing.

Yet again another brilliant response.

Whenever I hit a slump it's usually because I'm trying to do too much with the ball. I start trying to "force or manipulate" the shot.
In reality, we can only play the shot that's there. If you're a righty, move right, pick up a little ball speed, and play the more forgiving part of the lane. Less hand and less muscle out there will bring the scores up almost immediately. Picture yourself as Norm Duke and free everything up. You'll be amazed at how fast you can turn things around.
When the confidence returns everything becomes easier, especially shooting spares. It's true that those who are great spare shooters get more than their fair share of strikes. It's an accuracy thing, if you're accurate at making spares, you're also accurate at hitting your target on your first ball, and strikes will happen. Good luck.

Go do some open play on a freshly oiled shot at some cake house with your old reliable ball that you have in the basement and you have not used in sometime because of all the new beauties in the bag. Bowl until you are back in the groove and then stop overthinking things and get back to where you were in league. This is what I do but I do agree with the other post about being burnt out, that makes you wish the season were over, but just grind it out we are almost there.

DBQ...wuts wrong with my response...its an honest opinion...i went through a string of about a month where i couldnt carry anything and couldnt get anything to work anywhere...so i got rid of my stuff and got new stuff, sorry if the joke about dumping the balls on the rack wasnt funny to you, but dont go bashing my comment like that...not cool

Im a member of the "ebonite balls die quickly camp" but youd be hard pressed to convince me that the balls are the problem here. What ever it is, its mental, not physical imo.

happend to me when i got my total nv it didnt fit well with me at all i shot 500's for like 3 weeks strait at league. Bought a blue vibe and it is so pretictible for me and just last week i shot 726. so ryan's comment is right on maybe the ball your throwin just is not fitting to your game

I am in the same boat as you, i had a coach watch me bowl to make sure nothing bad creeped into my game. He told me you are doing everything right, just not carrying. The i force things and then get mad and then miss spares. He told me to be patiant and stay the course. Concentrate on makeing all spares, and laugh instead of get mad when you dont carry. I will try that plus i took a week off. It isnt easy to do all that when your team is in contension to win the half and your only 2 pins below top average and you want to win it again. I just need to relax and stop pusing my self.

don't sweat it just ry to execute well with good execution on most THS scores will come and the advice about pulling out your old favorite ball is not bad idea I did that last night on a league I was doing the same thing and shoot 684 not impressive but better then the 550s I was shooting and if it dosent work a good lesson or two never hurts

I was at that same point at the end of last year. I was ready to retire after bowling for 22 years straight. My suggestion would just go back to your bare bones basics.
Keep the feet slow and don't rush the line.
Post each shot and don't get lazy (one of my biggest flaws when in a slump)
Keep the shoulders square and don't drop the shoulder.
Keep focused on your target.
Have faith it will come back to you..... It did for me.
BTW New equipment doesn't hurt for a psychological lift as well

Depends on where the problem is. a 550 series is easily achieved with good spare convertion skills. So:
1) why are you not converting your spares?
2) leaving too many splits or hard to convert spares? (a matter of opinion)
And something to mull over about: There is no stone ________ (place number of pin here). Any shot that appears in to be in the pocket and doesn't convert to a strike has a reason. Either the ball broke a bit late (weak 6, leaving the 10 pin, was hooking too much (leaving the 8 or 9). etc.. keeping this in mind might help you keep cool. Seems to me its a mental rut. Good luck
