ball cleaning questions?
« on: March 12, 2009, 04:13:58 AM »
i want to see what everyone thinks about using -tracks "clean and dull"  for all balls, especially my "one pearl".  i want the covers to last as long as possible, so i have been using this after league. i believe this is a great product (i belive the new name is powerhouse cleaner) what else can i do besides what i am doing? what are you using to clean your equipment with?

to keep my covers clean I wipe after every shot or couple of shots. Then when I'm done I use a normal ball cleaner that u can get from any proshop. Then before I bowl another set I use a mix of 50 percent simply green and 50 percent alcohol. Gives the ball a tacky feel. Been working good for me upwards of 100+ games on my equipment still as strong as oob if not stronger.

Clean and Dull is a great product, I started using it back when it was called "Reaction Clean N' Dull" by A.P.P., then Track bought it from them and now its under Ebonites Powerhouse brand.

You don't have to use it every night though. I use use Hook-it for general cleaning after a set and C&D maybe once a week or every couple weeks depending on how I bowl.

P.S. "Clean N' Tacky" is not the same thing as "Clean N' Dull" encase you run across a bottle of it.

I have used a ton of cleaners and the best I have found is Remedy Rx by Valentino's Bowling Supplies.  It will remove anything and doesn't have an offensive odor.  It is usbc legal and can be used during games if you wish to do so.  My procedure is to wipe balls in my pre shot routine, clean at the end of each set, and then about 45 to 60 days I will give them a hot water bath to pull any oil from the coverstock.

Also a good idea to return back to factory OOB or grit level being used whether dull or polished about every 21 games to maintain peak performance. I see this step being left out alot between daily maintenance after each set and oil extraction.

thanks for the responses  ---- isnt 21 games alittle soon to take it back to oob. i would think maybee about 50 before i did that? i will continue to use clean and dull.

I am not talking about a  full resurface job. After a period of use a coverstock ends up at around 600 grit. A 4000 grit ball after about 21 games is no longer at 4000 grit but lower so just refresh it back up to 4000 grit (and apply polish if using) for optimium performance. Oil extraction is generally done about every 50-60 games. A full resurface every 100 games. Of course these are just averages as alot depends on the conditions(lane surface) being bowled on and style of bowler.

21 games may be to soon or not soon enough.
It all depends on the surface you are bowling on.  We have new amf synthetics and the high friction surface with quickly change the surface of any ball.  Old wood lanes will do the same.  Harder, slicker synthetics will change the ball very little.  Just keep a good eye on your track area and adjust as needed.
