Did I miss something I thought Pin to PAP distance controlled the flare potential and MB to PAP distance controlled reaction shape?
Ebonite says that the MB left of thumb(for a right hander) causes a severe drop in flare potential.

This is NON RECOMMENDED LAYOUT. This layout will produce a very mild ball reaction and is not recommended.

Ball Reaction: Very mild
Suitable for: Extremely high rev rates
Flare potential: Very Small
Pin Placement: Not recommended with this layout
Mass Bias Placement: Mass Bias Placements to the left of the thumb hole are not recommended because of the severe reduction in flare potential.

This MB placement might even cause reverse flare, especially for high rev players. The ball might track over every hole. Messy an ineffective.
It comes from the high MB asym. differential in balls like the One, the Xcels or the MoRich cores. Stay away from this. If you want a tame reaction, e.g. for a simulated label drilling ona a strong MB ball, do not go further towards your track with the MB than the thumb hole. Putting the MB on the thumb (and drilling the marker out) is still safe.

I know a guy that this drilling works well for. He has a good amount of revs and his track is VERY inverted (flares close to fingers but, far from thumb)!

A friend of mine has a similar drilling on a Zone Classic RP - he is a low tracker, and for him the ball works smoothly on dry/late conditions. But I suppose the driller was not a true pro of hi strade with this one... Nevertheless, I would not set the MB close to your track area on large MB balls, anyway.

I just drilled up a Killer Instinct and KI pearl with this MB placement. This gives the balls a reduced angle of entry for me and carries much better than a strong MB placement. (I tend to leave a lot of taps as the entry angle increases. It's fun to watch the ball hook late and strong, but it tends to score poorly!)While these balls have a strong mb it is not the huge MB of the One or the newer Morich stuff. They both flare plenty and in the correct direction. This is a viable drilling in older asymetric stuff. It apparently is a no-no on the newest generaton of asymetrics.

ok I have not seen it to the degree ebonite is saying SEVERE... I have laid out two of the same asym's one MB strong the other arc(left of thumb) I had maybe one extra flare ring on the strong ball.

I've seen zone classics that have flared 1 inch with relatively strong pin placements just because of where the mb was placed. Mb will affect flare potential, how can it affect reaction shape if it doesn't affect flare?
