Mission Domination Review
« on: January 17, 2011, 11:41:51 PM »
Alright well I got my hands on one of these! I gave it about a week before I posted this review just so I can try the ball out on different surfaces and different surfaces. I drilled the ball pin over ring finger.. with cg stacked... small balance hole! This is one of my favorite drillings that give good length and a nice strong backend motion on most balls! What I got at box condition was a ton of over under, the ball would either just slide or would hook out of the building both on wood surfaces and synthetics! Whether then take the ball surface up or down.. I decided to just apply factory finish polish over the top Whoo this thing woke up big time! I ended up seeing recovery just like the video x 2.. with polish the domination gets down the lane really well and just leaps off the dry. This is a perfect fit underneath the 916at drilled similar but at 1000 grit. I was able to move in and chase the oil on the shark pattern.. but yet still maintains plenty of strength to get the corners out. I will post pictures as they become available....

Note: This should serve as a lesson to those that give up on balls before trying to adjust the surface.. I have never matched up well with 4k abralon out of the box, nor does it seem I match up with 3k abralon either, but by adjusting the surface.. I found exactly what I was looking for in my bag.. now I can say I have everything that I need..

My current arsenal is: Track 916at, Mission Domination, Nomad Dagger, Ebonite Gameplan, and an Ice storm for spares/extreme dry lanes!

I don't get  it, you applied polish and the over/under went away...shouldn't it should have actually increased the over/under?

Maybe  you could elaborate more?  As I'm looking towards getting the domination.

Thanks in advance

Yep,

It may have been the new finishing process on the domination.. at 3000 grit I could never get a good read out of the ball..I am not a fan of the 3000 grit at all, the ball either snapped off the dry too hard, or went too long.. its like the ball had trouble reading any pattern that had a decent amount of oil. I thought that the ball was burning up at first, except I actually watched them put down a decent volume of oil. My 916at would hook consistent, the mission at oob would move one shot, the next shot slide.. Applying polish over the top made the ball get down the lane alot better and made the backend alot more agressive. Had I not polished this ball, it would have never made it in my bag.. cause I hated how it reacted!

I've only thrown a few games with the Domination so far, but at first glance this ball is a monster! I drilled this ball with the same layout I have on my 916AT, which WAS the strongest ball in my bag. Both balls are box finish. I see a much better midlane read with the Domination and more continuation down the lane. This ball is going to be REALLY good! Once I see this ball on some patterns I'll post my own mini review.

Thanks for the honest review Tiz! Do you have any comparisons to the original Mission? I have the original Mission drilled pin above the bridge with a 5 x 4 drilling and it is the by far the best ball I've ever thrown. I'm just struggling to find a proper ball with a similar reaction to ball down to when the lanes dry up and I'm wondering if the Domination can fill that void.

Good stuff Tizzle!

I had pretty much given up on mine after the first couple of practice sessions. I bowled in 4 different houses and tried multiple hand positions and all I got was massive over/under.

I have probably put between 10-20 games on it now, and it is coming to life for me. I adjusted the surface to 4000 grit abralon and that did the trick for me.

Drilling was a 5" pin to PAP, 4" MB to PAP, and the Pin was 1" from my VAL, no extra hole.

In general I rarely get to use our high end products b/c of the bowling environment around me, but it's nice to know that I have some other options if need be.

I would tend to use this piece when the Vital Energy rolls up a tad too soon, as the Domination wants to push through the front part of the lane a lot more, and the response to friction is quicker. Good for playing deep inside or a big swing shot.

Darren, I have slower speed (14-16 mph) and revs on the lower side of medium. Based on your experience of throwing the Domination so far, how do you see it reacting for people in the area of my revs and ball speed.

I'm looking forward to getting my hands on an Ebonite Mission Domination. If it throws anything like the Mission 2.0 it'll make me happy!
