Mission - Drilling #5 Question
« on: December 30, 2010, 02:59:15 AM »
I'm the guy the makes most THS lane patterns play dry.  Too much hand, not enough ball speed.  Most of my teammates are throwing reigns and missions and I'm throwing a Lane Masters Hornet or an Avalanche Pearl and hoping they don't over-react on the back-end.  A couple of people have suggested that I could even throw a Mission, but that I need to use the drill pattern 5 that is not recommended because I am the exception to most bowler....extreme hand...slower ball speed.  What do the Ebonite people here think?  I haven't read anything about drilling 5, so I was hoping to learn about it here.  TIA

Spending the money on a high performance ball then drilling not to hook at all defeats its purpose. Low RG balls are also not your friends with your high revs and slow ball speed. You need to stick with higher RG(2.55 and above) lower Diff equipment. If you are looking for something stronger than your Hornet and Avalanche that won't over react for you on a THS, the Hammer Brawl with Drilling #2 should should suit your needs.

FYI in case anyone cares. I'm a lefty.  Pin next to ring, MB is an inch or 2 under the thumb (4 inch span), so not quite all the way in my track, but pretty close.  I'm getting 6+ inches of flare.  Plenty of hook.  Shot 730 with it 2nd set on my travel league.

I feel your pain.  Had the same problem.  I would suggest mid to hi rg (depending on the amount of oil your ths has), a mid diff drilled to arc evenly.  Going too low on the diff. might cause you to have some carry problems when you're playing deep.   You still need some pop to carry the corner.

I wouldn't go with the mission, the midlane roll characteristic of the ball might cause roll out.  Get a pearl or polished a mid range solid.

hope to have helped.
