Cyclone...Is this as good a ball as I'm reading into ?!
« on: May 05, 2012, 11:27:06 AM »
So I been outta bowling for a few years and asint been in a bowling center in 4 years..lol, I use to be a big poster on here around the 2005-2007 era.

I'm looking to dust off my 300 rings and get back into a summer league then go back full force next winter.

Having said that, I was just browsing BSP and came across the Cyclone. Anit I reading this wrong or is the cover that was on "The One" for $79.99 ?! Wheres the catch here at ?

I'm bowling summer league in a house I shot 718 with a Tornado along time ago (they don't like oil in the summer :)) I believe my stats are in my profile from when I was here a long time ago.

Thanks in Advance guys  :)

I really think you'll be happy with your purchase. My cyclones are my favorite bowling balls in my current arsenal!

I'm just not convinced this is a carry deep ball, like the Mission can be!

I've seen some big handed throwers pin ping ping when playing inside.

Most of my equipment has a 5" pin-pap
I went 5.5" on my cyclone to help keep the back-end a bit more round
but, I have a bit of hand.
I went with the black/silver and kept it OBB
Gets through the heads nice and smooth and strong arcing back-end
Agree it's not for heavier patterns, could get skid/flippy on to much volume

Insteresting we are discussing this right now.

Had a funny experience today.  No thumber at our center today (he is soft speed big hand reaction maximizer).

He had 3 balls, a Solid Nomad, drilled stacked pin up, a Cyclone drilled stacked near leverage, and a Freeze drilled pin up label leverage.

Nomad, midlane and a sharp angular backend.  Cyclone just an even slurve all the way down the lane, but due to stack drilling high entry angle.

Finally the Freeze, good midlane and a flippy backend but less than the Nomad.

Thanks no thumber!

This is a great ball!!  Because of my speed and hand I keep buying the weakest balls that come out to try and find one to work on a low oil THS.  I shot 279 out of the box with no practice with the Cyclone.  Really a great ball for the price and I hope they keep playing with the cover stocks and cores and keep making great low priced balls

Yes the cover off EBIs biggest hooking ball from about 5 years ago is now used on their entry level ball. Well worth getting a couple and drilling them different and adjusting the surface for several different conditions.

I can't imagine how this ball is classified as weak.

A strongish core combined with a very powerful coverstock!

It can't be that weak.  The Scouts were weak.   Ther Tropical breeze is weak.
The slingshot is weak.

The above Cyclone much stronger for medium to Medium heavy oil.

Hate to say I told you so! But I told you so!...back in the Track thread.

My Cyclone is still one of the strongest balls I own! but very inexpensive.
Some days you're the bug....some days you're the windshield...that's bowling!

@LL ball can be used from deep in, but side roll is needed for carry, or judicious use of the dual angle system.
We don't have very clean back ends over here so my experience is that the ball is sensitive to oil carry.  It is however truly weaker the the original "the one".  Same cover but pearl and weaker core, looks stronger because it's use is for light oils.  And has a bigger hook.

Regards

The Cyclone is a solid, not pearl. Leanne Hulzenburg cleared this up on a thread shortly after the balls release.

Not at all, I just remembered this discussion from about a year ago. In reference to using the ball on heavier patterns,  I think with surface adjustments this ball would easily handle all but the heaviest patterns.

Hit the nail on the head right there, in the shop I work in the Cyclones have been one of the best sellers along with the Freeze line, as well as the Nails from Hammer.

I tell folks all the time, for the price point that the Cyclone is at, you'll not find a better ball period. Great thing is its so versatile, for someone who is just starting out, yes you can drill it weaker and match them to it, for the more experienced player you can drill it stronger and it will give them a nice look on THS.

Overall, I have not seen one person so far who hasnt matched up with this ball, its ultra versatile, takes cover changes extremely well, and yes it will carry from deep provided the indian throwing it makes good shots! All in all for the price Id recommend the Cyclone to just about anyone. Its that good....

I couldn't agree with you more! I have 2 in my bag, 1pin up at box finish, and the other pin down at 3000 grit. Covers the house shots I run into very well.
