Ebonite?
« on: January 30, 2008, 03:22:44 AM »
I have a theory about Ebonite right now and was just wondering what everyone else thinks...I feel as though Ebonite knows they have a BIG name in bowling and that their equipment will sell just because of the name Ebonite. Because of this I feel as though they are spending much more time on their other companies such as Hammer, Columbia, and Track.

I think that they have made much more effort to make the new great equipment this year through Hammer and Columbia. I kind of feel as though the actual Ebonite equipment is being left behind right now. I know they just came out with the CNV but is that honestly that much of a different ball than the TNV. They came out with the Gamebreaker and Raid, which both were tweaked older balls and have came out with nothing all NEW all season.

I have found myself having no interest in Ebonite right now. Usually I would be really excited about a new ball release like the CNV but I can find any enhusiasm for it right now. I think Ebonite is actually falling behind the other companies including the ones it owns and I feel as though they are fine with that, because they still sell.

I have also heard that Tommy Jones has not been happy with the new equipment on the PBA patterns, I am not sure how true that is but he hasn't had a great season either.

I disagree. I think Ebonite is 'sectioning off' the bowlers wants/needs. If you want or need a ball for more 'snap' more the down and in style, it's Hammer and some Columbia. If you're looking for more 'arc ' then you're Ebonite and some Track.

I know some of each company makes all types, but this is just how I see it. Could be wrong, have to wait and see.

I would say that columbia is far from snappy. Most of Columbia's newer stuff is made to arc on the back. And as far as Hammer goes, I think Hammer may have the most complete line of equipment of any company out right now. They have a ball for just about every need.

Ebonite is just using the same coverstocks and same cores over and over and putting a new name on it and it is selling like it is an all new idea IMO. I think Columbia and Hammer have both surrpassed Ebonite in the industry if you as me.

Tdub I agree with you.  As a follower of Ebonite, I have lost interest this season due to the lack of balls they are putting out.  I think come next year after everything settles down with the release of the new equipment for Columbia and Track that they will focus more on their name, and not the side companies.
