Need Help? Ball Problem Maybe Bowler Problem?
« on: March 11, 2005, 10:32:08 AM »
I am currently using a Ebonite Primal Instinct 15lb. I'm new to all the tech. terms you guys use but here goes When I first received the ball it was doing pretty good. I have been working on swing and revs. but for the last 2 months I get absolutely nothing after release looks like i'm using a plastic ball. I throw between 16.5 and 18. mph which is very comfortable everything feels right. but if I slow it down to around 14mph or slower the ball hooks just fine, but this is throwing everything off because I have to alter everything, it feels unnatural. I get more hook out of snuffy my spare ball then the Primal. I've had the ball cleaned(soaked out oil) and everything. Also have noticed the lane conditions are using less oil. What do I need to try next? I have been thinking I need to get a pearl type ball( that works better on med. oil lanes. What do you guys think? and if its a different ball what do you recommend? I thought but could be wrong the Xcel Pearl would be a great choice.
Any help would be appreciated Thanks In Advance.

how or what can i do to tell you how my ball is layed out? drillers here dont get techincal down here where I live. but i will try to tell you how its laid out.

pin is located 1 3/4" down to the right of ring finger
bomp is below to right of thumb hole 3 3/4"
Balance hole is to the right of the thumb 5" (3/4" round 2" deep)
balance hole from pin is 5 1/4"

looks almost identical to drilling instruction #2 for this ball

Let me know if this helps.

If this doesnt help what can i do to get the right info.?

Ebonite Fan---My dad has experienced some of the same things you mention with his Ebonite bowling balls.  He's had a Tiger, Tornado, Obsession, and a TPC Shooter.  When he gets the ball it works great for a few months.  After that, the ball just seems to stop working.  He uses ball cleaner after every night of bowling, we've put the balls in a tub of warm water and dawn liquid, and we've used some of that kitty litter stuff, but nothing seems to get the ball working.  I always told him that he must be doing something different.  I gave him a Power Groove, and he hasn't experienced any of the same problems (he's had the ball for this entire fall season without any noticable reaction changes.  I don't want to say that Ebonite makes inferior equipment, but maybe they need to invest in some long term testing.
