New Video: XXXcel
« on: May 18, 2006, 11:33:28 AM »
I posted a video of my friend Jeff throwing his XXXcel a while back and it was a bad video to say the least. Well here he is throwing at his best. Any critques are wanted. Jeff thanks you all in advance for any compliments or help.

Looks interesting to me, it doesn't look like the ball is hooking at all. Looks like he's throwing almost completely a straight shot, which could be why he leaves so many splits in the beginning.

Yes...the unfortunate problem of where he bowles is that its all wood lanes. He bowles with it at Herrills for league and at JIB (which is a dump) for school. Ball is tracked, and he never keeps it clean. Thats why it is the way it is. He has reciently. That ball is drilled stacked with pin under and right of ring. THat ball flat out hooks and he does not...i repeat does not throw it straight. Anyway, im trying to make a video of the Big One with him.

Any comments on his game?

Yeah that ball is hitting flat bad.

To get it to hit hard you have to increase the entry angle and get on the side of the ball  more to kick out those splits.

He'll learn to get it to hook into the pocket, if he wants to.

I agree with Bowlerkidr. That house is terrible. I bowled in almost every house on Long Island and that house is near or at the bottom of the list. I'll never go there again. Tell Jeff to clean his balls and move to Garden City or Sheridan lanes. He's probably due for either a re-surfacing or a new ball. Seems like Jeff has no problem getting the ball to the 1-3 hole. It's just the ball hitting so flat, nothing carries.

Let me give you a small tip. . .not trying to ruin your life or anything here.

When you start you approach, you have to have a pushaway to gain momentum. From the look of the vid, when you start, you immediatly drop the ball. the pushaway will give you a higher armswing, thus make your shots more controllable and consistant.

Nice vid, once again, just trying to help.

He has a nice dead arm swing. Two things which were noted was that he does not hold his shot after throwing it too often. (posting shot) I believe this leads to both falling off the shot and early hand turn which also will lessen his roll chracteristics. I wish he would have put a piece of white tape just above the bridge and just under the thumb hole so we could see his ball rotation. For a young guy he has a decent foundation to start with for game. Can't emphasize enough the need for good instruction from a qualified coach it would greatly benefit someone like that immensely. Good luck and thanks for the vid.

This is such a good video...

Me seeing a XXXcel hook 2 boards just makes me want to buy it.

How much does one of his balls hook when they are clean? 4 boards?

No offense man but he doesn't turn the ball what so ever so don't say that it's the ball.

It is the ball...his Big One hooks a ton, and so did this ball when he bought it, but he has thrown so many games with it on wood lanes that its gone. He cleaned it once and he has like 500 games on it.

I enjoyed watching this video as well as the one with the Action Packed on your site.

I have to agree with others here that on the video with your friend he has no pushaway.  However, instead of being rude about it I will just point that out.  I am kind of learning also so I am not on any kind of high horse.

I don't really agree with the XXXcel hooking 2 boards though, that ball got some hook in some of those shots.

It takes guts to post a video of yourself like that.  I would personally only edit myself getting strikes all the time, so I respect the putting yourself out there for criticism.

Bowlerkid,
Your XXXCEL is not hooking because it's rolling out.  You have an agressive drilling and bowling on dirt.  Look at how tracked out the ball is from bowling at Herrill lanes.  As straight as you throw it you should be using a weaker ball or use a weaker drilling with polish.  You should also move at least into the track or deeper so the ball has something left for the backend.  Herrill and JIB, you may of chossen the worst centers in the NYC area to bowl in.  Try bowling on syn surface, bet you bowl letter and will be able to stronger ball.  Bowling in Herrill and JIB is not bowling, that called moonlight bowling 24/7

Wow. Those are old lanes. I haven't seen lanes like that since the early 90's. Now...for suggestions...one take care of the equipment. That means cleaning the bowling ball after every session. That ball, well maintained, will last years with good results. Secondly....he might try keeping his left foot pointed at the target rather then to the right as it seems to be. Of course it's easy for me to say that as I have a similar problem keeping my foot pointed straight. Otherwise, he has a nice swing and good velocity. Practice is the key. And keeping the ball clean.
