There's a sporting goods store in my area that has an Ebonite Nitro R (not R2) for sale for a decent price. Would this work well as a dry lane ball? I have a hole in my arsenal there and I thought this one might fill it.

Probably not. Its a sanded ball. Try one of the tornadoes for dry conditions.

Is it one of the lime green originals? Make sure, because ebonite has, from time to time, made balls for some big sporting goods chains, re-using names from the old days without using the same technology.
An example is with a chain called Sports Authority. They are selling a Crush/R and a Nitro, but these are just cheap pancake cores in cheap coverstocks using the names from the past, they are NOTHING like the originals.
When buying from a large chain store, remember that bowling isn't like other things. The balls you buy there are usually just cheap pieces of crap.

Thanks for the advice, I've decided that I won't take a chance. I don't know what the original Nitro R had for a weight block, but the ones in this store were pancakes. I'll look elsewhere for a dry lane ball.
