Ebonite Xcel Pearl...excited
« on: June 09, 2006, 05:46:24 PM »
Just picked up a used one!

Excited because everyone I see with one around here just tears em with it!

Didn't see many but the ones I did...were often on the other side...killin our team!

And the guys were not great bowlers...but they would swithch to this and kill us.

Put it away...they'd go in the dumper!

I never saw many of the Xcel solids...but the pearls...killers but few around.

So few have seen them...that no comments right?

Xcel pearl looked like a pretty decent ball when there was some dry to work with...all the solids I've EVER seen have looked like duds. Xcel line wasn't really that great IMO, it's all about the ones now. To be honest though, never really saw enough of the xcel line to make a true judgement on it.

Both early Xcels (pearl and particle) were so so balls... the pearl seemed to suffer from its box finish. From what I have heard, giving trhe ball an immediate new polish is a wise thing to do, and then it should be a nice ball.

The later balls, the XXcel and XXXCel, had different core with additional flip nuggets. They both are great balls for medium-oily to oily conditions, move a lot, great hit and carry. But they look weird, so I think they had not been big sellers. But true high performance stuff, especially for people with some revs.

I have rolled all of the balls in the Xcel line. The pearl, had such a mild backend reaction that I gave it away to a friend who rolls the ball with almost a backspin flick of the wrist in a straight line standing right and aiming center. It has wonderful pin action despite it's lousy hook. I fell in love with the Xxcel when I first tried it. It was the best hooking ball that I'd ever used, but I had to put a lot of hand into it. I later decided to try the Xxxcel when I joined a league that liked to flood the lanes with heavy oil. It had a terrible pin reaction. A solid hit to the pocket could leave 4 or 5 pins in random locations. I think it had too much forward roll on the back end. Finally, reading the stats that the Xcel particle had the same hook potential, and an earlier reaction, I decided to give it a try. I had it drilled similarly to the Xxcel pin right of ring cg stacked below. The ball outhooks everything else in the Xcel line, and has excellent read and pin action.

That might be it!  Our lanes for league around here are what many would call flyin!  And it starts in the midlane!  These really seem to float like a butterfly and sting like a bee!

The Xcel pearl has looked good for few but for every guy around here I've seen use it... just squaring up nicely and delivering a vicious crack!

Also have a friend that throws an Xcel Particle...he's great and he's wonderful results with it!
