Looking for something with a big backend...
« on: November 17, 2008, 01:45:18 PM »
Oh, and I'd like a ball that hooks a lot after about 45-50 feet too

Seriously, though. I really only care for Ebonite stuff, so I'm looking for something that will really go hard on the backend!

I've heard and seen the NVD and Complete NV...what else really hooks hard on the backend? The oil pattern was changed in our house, and I'm having to play straight up ten until they break down...(which I'm averaging 220 doing, so I'm not unhappy about it...but I'm just looking for something I can hook, increase my carry maybe).

I don't want anything lopey or uncontrollably flippy.

Here's my current set of balls:

Smash Time Solid (this is the closest I have)
Raid
The One
Playmaker
SR300
Infinite One (this is also very close, but I don't care for it...it's lopey)
Ice
Tornado

Not Ebonite:
Avalanche Pearl
Screamin Banshee
Radical Inferno
Total Inferno
Cell (thinking about getting this back out and trying it again)
Pyro
Enriched Uranium
Neptune (axis drill...don't like it at all)

I have a few more, I think, but I'm not sure what ones, and I'm too lazy to go look

So, feel free to suggest anything, but I'm really more likely to buy anything by Ebonite.

Nowhere near the ebo family but why not try an awesome flip? It is VERY strong thru the juice for me.

If you're into the medium-heavy oil, The One (new or rejuvenating your old one) and the Gamebreaker and the Striking Motion are the only true oil requiring/loving balls in Ebonite's current stable.

If you use a high pin (above the fingers) AND place thepin in the 4", 4.5" range, the ball should still flare a lot and not just go long. Your relatively high rev rate PLUS the relatively strong pin posiiton should allow the ball to have plenty of energy left at the breakpoint. The higher pin position PLUS the heavier oil should still allow the ball to add a few feet of length. The 4" or 4.5" pin-PAP distance plus your rev rate should give a large backend.

Using a high pin PLUS still keeping the pin in a strong position moves this ball towards the Tommy Jones type of trick drill, without actually being one. His uses a very high pin, maybe 2" or 3" above the fingers. That makes the ball snap even harder.

If you want to venture into EBonite's cousin's place, Hammer, the Black Widow and the Black Widow Bite can handle medium-heavy oil, with your high rev rate, and their forte is length and strong, big backend. The Bite handles more oil than the "plain" BW.
