Would the Playmaker be a good benchmark ball?

IMO No it wouldn't. When I think benchmark ball I think something smooth and predictable, something that's going to give you a good read on the lanes and that's not the Playmaker.

I've been saying for a at least a year, the Gamebreaker is the best benchmark ball i've ever owned.

i think it would be an ok benchmark ball but there are better choices..i like mine alot, it needs some head oil and when it reaches end of pattern it goes left..i can open up the entire lane with mine..it is stronger than i thought it would be..in my opinion its a med to heavy med oil ball..

According to Ebonite the Gamebreaker goes longer than the Playmaker. Both have the same coverstock, one a solid and one a pearl.  I thought pearls go longer and hook more in the back? WTF???  This makes no sense to me... Can someone explain this??

Gamebreaker: OOB is 2000 sanded, Length is 19  Hook 38
Playmaker:       OOB is 4000                Length is 18  Hook 37

I thought the Gamebreaker was better suited for heavier oil and the Playmaker was more for Medium oil. Thats why I figured the Playmaker would of been a better choice for a benchmark piece. Guess I was wrong. I'm glad I asked before I bought the ball.

Forget those numbers, the Gamebreaker is MUCH earlier than the Playmaker.  The Playmaker is NOT a benchmark ball.  The Gamebreaker is the best choice in the ebonite mid priced line up.

It clears the heads really nice, and flyies on clean backends. When this ball hits carry down its time to put this way. I agree the gamebreaker is the ball. I would vote for ball of the year.

Ignore Ebonites numbers, the game is a lot earlier than the Playmaker like previously posted, the playmaker goes longer and has a stronger backend but mine is still very smooth on the  backend. I would vote for Gamebreaker for a bench mark too.

I figured the Playmaker would go longer (despite the numbers) because its a pearl but I guess I don't understand why Ebonite would put those numbers up if its not true. Its kind of misleading. You would think Ebonite would want to get that right.

Gamebreaker for bench mark ball.

The playmaker does start up earlier to roll, but for example on long patterns, the breaker starts to hook earlier.  The maker just keeps on sliding until it hits friction then takes off.

Hmm... The Breaker and the Maker... Nicer names in my opinion... hehe
