NVD - How strong is it
« on: January 23, 2011, 03:57:40 AM »
Can anyone give me some overall feedback on the NVD, especially how strong it is, and what current balls it compares to (not just Ebonite)?  Would this ball work well on oilier synthetics without having to slow speed way down?  How's the mid-lane read?  I've been thinking the NVD, Track 715T, VG, or the Alpha Max.

NVD is pretty strong depending on how you drill it, and one of my favorite balls I've used in the last two years. When I had mine last year, I kept it at 2000 grit but sometimes took it down to 1000 if I was bowling on longer and heavier oil. It's got very good read in the midlanes and has some pop in the backend, great to use as the first one out of the bag. I would say Virtual Gravity, Jigsaw, 715T and 505T are similar or close to it.

Been awhile since I threw my NVD but if I remember correctly the ball was a beast.

And there will be some on here that would say that the coverstocks in the NV line (or Ebonite in general) would die out quickly after 30-50 games. But I had the NVD for over 1 1/2 years and hardly lost any reaction to it even with a few hundred games on it.

I had / still have one (it's retired and in the closet).  The ball was great.  Worked best for me at 1000 grit and gave me a good reaction on the US Open pattern.  Have tried it on the THS but needed to bring it up to 2000 to help get it downlane a bit.  It needs AT LEAST medium oil or heavier as the midlane read is so early.

If you're looking for any NV get the original, none of the others come close

I have 2 and it is a very strong ball.Good in heavier volumes of oil.Very god carry and recovery under the right conditions. I do believe in ball death though when it comes to ebonite,my first one is a shadow of what it once was, probably 10 boards weaker than my bank with the same drill.

Very strong ball, also the coverstock is polishable.  Meaning it will still react strongly even when polished.  Not all ebonite balls do this.

Mine is polished as I don't get to see a lot of oil anymore.  Even polished, I can't used it on house patterns that are medium and lighter.  Good read off the breakpoint.  Nice roll too.
