Title: One more time... SAVAGE vs. V2
Post by: Ric Clint on March 04, 2004, 09:51:52 AM

You know, if you read the description of both of these balls, it says that the V2 should roll a little early and have a controlled backend (kind of "banana" shaped) and that the SAVAGE should get length and have a super strong backend snap (kind of "hocky-stick" shaped)...

BUT...

When I throw both of these balls that are drilled almost EXACT (PIN above ring, CG stacked), I find the exact opposite!!!

The V2 is more of a "hocky-stick" shape and the SAVAGE is very mild on the backend and is kind of "banana" shaped.

And I'm talking about either sanded to the same grit, or polished to the same grit... the reaction/backend shape is still the same!

And everybody else that has these that I've talked to says the same thing.

So why does the V2 have such a super strong backend as compared to the SAVAGE???

Ric - I can almost make the same comparison.

I have a V2 pearl and a Savage Pearl.  Both are drilled the same and both have the same cover (polished).

The V2 does have a more skid snap quality to it and the savage pearl is hockey stick but more of a mellow hockey stick.

I do think it also depends on release. When I have more axis rotation the V2 is definitely more snappy.  Less axis rotation the SP becomes more angular.

Overal the SP covers more boards and is stronger in the backends.  But that is my opinion.

Hope this helps.

What are the ball specs?  Does one have more top weight or a longer pin out than the other?

Well, both of the PIN's are EXACTLY 3" from the CG's and from what I rememeber the Top Weight's were the same to.

But this is not just with me... several friends have made this same comparison that I have made.

Pss... Both of these are drilled 4 1/2" x 4". And no weight hole.

I had a savage and that thing starts up quite early. The V2 seems to start up pretty early too, but not as early as the savages that I've seen.

The trimax cover (V2) is stronger than the Big Wheel (savage).
