Original Mission - pin up or pin down preferred?
« on: March 14, 2011, 05:27:07 AM »
Thinking about maybe picking up a Mission now that there's some good pricing going on now.  In general, does this ball seem to perform better with a pin up layout or a pin down layout, especially on synthetics?  My speed is about 14 at the pins, with medium revs.  Thanks.

I never tried a Mission drilled pin up. I can only speak for pin down as that is how I drilled my Mission.

It has a 3 1/8" pin and I drilled it 50* x 4 x 70* with pin under RF and weight hole in the P3 position and it is perfect for my style, speed and revs. This ball is a striking machine and has almost made me forget my Gamebreaker which I really-really loved, but it was 14# and I have switched to 15#, so I put my Gamebreaker in my locker for now. I bowl only on THS and play from along the oil line to just inside the oil line around the 12-13 boards and swinging it out to approx the 7-8 board area. (my specs are in my profile)

My Mission is very versatile and playable on several conditions. I have been able to cut my arsenal to just 2 balls playing THS (Mission and Game On) plus one plastic ball. (Lane 1 Red XXXL).

BTW, the Mission has been Voted the #1 High Performance Ball of the year in the BTM magazine and also was voted the #1 Most Versatile Ball of the year. Results of all balls will be in this month's BTM magizine when it comes out later this month.

In my experience, every ball in the Mission line is about 50 times better when drilled pin up xD

The only things that are truly permanent are death and Sharpies.

Mine is drilled pin-up, just above my bridge.  Just a bit shorter than a 5" pin.  MB is about an inch right of my thumb.  Really small weight hole.  My speed is 14.5 to 15 at the cameras.  Never tried one pin down, but I really think it would be to early for me pin down with my ball speed.

My speed is close to yours and pin down on most balls works better for me personally than pin up, but I don't have high revs. My revs are close to medium but a wee-wee bit less. Maybe I bowl on more oil than you do???  I don't know. Then again maybe it could also be the difference in our type of release as I don't have much hand at release??? I guess it is a case of drillings that work for one person don't always work for another.

Have drilled three.

Least favorite is pin over the bridge. Has had it moments, but even with a number of different surfaces, I trust it the least.

Drilled one for Nats in Reno-pin in ring finger and mb under thumb. Ball is very good at not jumping off the spot, but still finishes well enough to carry. Solid results on house shots and sport shots.

Drilled one pin under middle finger, mb at 60*.  Have used this drill on a number of different balls. Rolly reaction while still clearing the heads, controlled backend reaction.

Mission is a very good one, still my favorite of the three.
