Overtime vs. V2 Power
« on: November 23, 2005, 01:33:51 PM »
Can anyone offer a comparison of these two balls?  I know it's different covers and different cores, but i'm really just looking for a generalization, is one flippier than the other?  Does one handle more oil?  Yadda yadda yadda...any help here would be outstanding!  Thanks!!

I agree with Ironhorse and like my Overtime alsp. 801 first set out of the box with 20 strikes in a row from 2nd frame of 2nd game and then a washout split, my fault, in the 10th of the 3rd. The Overtime is not exzactly flippy but does have a great move to the pocket from the midlane area for me. The V2 Power was just too rolly right off of the hand with the same drill pattern.

I agree, I don't especially look at scores, more at reactions, and not even so much at that either because every bowler is different.  I like to get an idea of the general reaction of a ball, especially working in a pro shop part time, it gives me a better idea of what the ball does.

Jason Couch used both of these balls this week to make it to the Finals. You can't go wrong with either one.

Jason Couch used a V2 Power exclusively for the first block and and Overtime for the second block. Also saw sprinkles of the Crossfire and Apex Addiction. Others using the Overtime were Dino Castillo and Tommy Jones who used it for the the entire qualifying. Tommy Jones also threw the Ice a few times.  From what I saw it looked to be a very even rolling ball that didnt "jerk" from oil to dry and also got good length provided the coverstock on the ball. Keep in mind that Jason Couch and Tommy Jones have hand and speed to over power transition. Tommy Delutz however doesnt not, he used the ball almost exclusively as well and imo had a horrible look with it. Looked to be speed sensitive with Tommy's tweener release. On a side note, The One was a ball that caused many "under your breath expletives". And even heard some ball reps and good amateur players trash it. With a littany of negative comments such as "I hate this/that ball". Looked as if this ball was extremly release sensitive, leaving several 2-8-10's or ring 10's throughout the day. Funniest qoute, "The One, the ball that always leaves one pin standing". I did notice that in the second block once the lanes were blown wide open, I saw a few V2's with the pin drilled under the middle finger and cg looked to be in the center of the grip. Seems like a great drill for playing deep and maintaining hitting power, power I dont think you can get from a entry level ball.

I dont know it all, I was just relaying what I saw and heard at the event. Just because it works for bowler A does not guarantee it will work for bowler B and vice versa. I dont care how good the ball is. On the TV show the leftside played a bit slicker than it did all week. Dont beleive me? Ask Parker Bohn. Im sure some players were caught up in the moment of not doing to well and some of the comments did not actually carry any merit. And as far as this statement "and just because someone associated with the tour drilled it doesn't always promise it was drilled correct." I wont even dignify that with a reply. And FYI I have The One and I like it. But to suggest its great for everyone may be off base. It may be good for a mass amount of people but someone, somewhere doesnt like the ball.

northface28 and I got off to a bad start way back when,....I can't even remember why now....but we did for some reason...but it's been long cleared up and I have learned/grown to read everything he writes, and I respect his insight.

Ruf, your response here is WAY off base!  northface was simply relaying what he saw and heard, nothing more, nothing less!

Chill......

And , btw, I agree w/ northface....THE ONE is a great ball for anyone IS DEFINATELY off target!  Can't be true, because SOMEONE won't match up with it...just like any other ball......

Jeffrevs is correct....I love the Overtime but haven't matched up wot hThe One very well as of yet with Drill Pattern #1. I have another one NIB I might try with a little more control layout.
