pin slasher/playmaker
« on: February 15, 2009, 12:39:15 PM »
I'm loving the playmaker,I about to pull the trigger on another either the PM or the PS.I plan on drilling up either one with the same exact layout as the one in my profile for heavier oil.the question is should I go for the PS or the PM with a cover change?are the cores exactly the same?I've tried my PM with different cover preps and it has been a wonderful ball at any surface.opinions?

For heavier volumes of oil, I'd go with the Pin Slasher. Yes, the cores are identical in the two balls, but the coverstocks are different. The GB 12.7 used on the Pin Slasher is a good deal more aggressive than the Playmaker's GB 10.7. Also, the Pin Slasher is a solid, whereas the Playmaker is pearlized. Because of this, the Pin Slasher will generate more traction through the heads and a more aggressive midlane read, with a smoother and earlier reaction than the Playmaker. This reaction will match up much better on slicker lanes than the Playmaker's, which will be cleaner through the heads with a sharper backend, even with a surface change. If you were to put the two balls at identical surfaces, the Pin Slasher will easily generate more traction than the Playmaker. GB 12.7 is a pretty aggressive cover it was used on the Infinite One, which i own and love.

I hope this helps you. Good luck!

The 12.1 was actually the coverstock on the infinite one. The 12.7 is the coverstock used on the Angular One, which was a pearl. Whether the Pin Slasher is a pearl or solid I have heard debated a bit, but have not heard the definite answer. Polished it sure looks like a pearl thats all I know.

so can we say that the slasher fits in between the GB and PM? for the most part I'm sure another Playmaker drilled just like the one I have but sanded to 2000 would give me the set up I want but it might be better to get the slasher for the stronger cover, hopefully not too strong up front.I'll be picking up one of the three this weekend.

Pin Slasher outta this choice, trust the force Luke and listen to what it tells you.

Actually the magic is even better for another 30 bucks or so.

Pinslasher is a solid and I would say it is every bit as strong as the Gamebreaker just a different motion.

in what way, they have the same core?I had mine in my hands today and tomorrow I'll be getting it drilled.I was thinking the same layout as my playmaker but now I have second thoughts.take a look in my profile for a pic,pap is 5x0.and yes it looks to be a solid.

After looking at you profile it appears all of your stuff is drilled pin up.  Have you tryed pin down/pin under?  Just a thought.  I know it would typically require decent speed and with the Pin Slasher's strength it would require good speed but I would expect it to give you a different look.

I've tried plenty of pin down stuff and I do have a pin under grip on the cl phenom that I like but don't use much, set up for floods.after talking to my pro shop friend he agreed that I should lay out the ps the same as my pm to really compliment each other.the ps required an x hole on pap and it's also set up with no grips,I think I'm done with grips.BTW on a closer inspection the ps has some pearl in it.

I get good midlane w/ this ball. I wouldn't call it angular, but it has a strong arc type of backend reaction for me. I've got it pin up also (pic in my profile).

And I still don't know how people are "seeing" pearl in theirs. I've all ready had 2 because I had to replace the stolen one. How do you know it's there? Tiny, shiny, specks? Plus, it doesn't react like it's got pearl in it. I'm just saying. Anyway, I think you'll love your new ball

The Pinslasher along with the Raid are solid versions of the 12.7 coverstock. The Angular One was the pearl version.
