Polished NVD ?

I have an opportunity for a good deal on one but would have to modify its surface to achieve its intended purpose.  Has anyone polished theirs ?  Would the ball work better for medium-rev/slower ball speed if polished ?  Or would it be too squirty at the breakpoint ?  Also, would polish reduce the oil absorption rate ?

Where is your sense of adventure?  If you've never tried polishing an oiler, you're missing out.  It's a very unique, very useful ball reaction.  (Kinda like the people who think they have to drill a heavy oil ball strong, and don't realize how amazing they roll with weaker layouts!)  I have only thrown the NVD in its box finish at an Ebonite Demo Day (and found it to be just stupidly angular even then!), so I can't say from specific experience with this ball.  I have, however, loved the types of reactions I get from polishing my Cell and my Dimension, which are both heavy oil balls as well that come dull from the factory.  Better energy retention and more angle on the backend with a slower response to friction than a pearl, which is good for countering jumpy backends and over/under conditions.  If it's too squirty, try using less pressure when polishing, or apply the polish by hand without a spinner.

If the NVD is slotted into your arsenal as the dull oiler, that's perfectly fine!  I'm just saying that it can serve other purposes if you already have that whole in your arsenal filled and need a different look.  (Similar to how a dulled pearl is something not everybody has tried, but is a very useful ball reaction to try)

I was just curious because one's available at a very good price, and it would be for my daughter.  I figured if I could get a good deal, adjust it to make it usable on medium volume/length patterns then, why not?  We could always take the polish off for more/longer oil.  Can't really afford an arsenal, just trying to find balls relatively cheap that she could use on different conditions.

I polished my NVD with Snake Oil 6 sides over 4000 grit and I liked it more than oob. I thought it was a little flat on the back oob condition even though I drilled it with a long and strong layout. Only issue is that with it shined like this it pretty much made it identical to my TNV. I love that ball and so the NVD didn't get used much after that. I feel that polish made the NVD hit much, much harder.

I agree i just did the very same thing the other night.. and same results as below.
