Primal Instinct review in BTM
« on: July 17, 2004, 06:51:47 AM »
Are the good folks at BTM on drugs on this one?  I threw the Primal Instinct at a Demo Days, and it seemed like a monster on the shot that was set up there.  BTM gave it a 44 on total hook and 8/9/8 rating from it's 3 testers on dry lanes.  A lower total hook rating than the V2 Sweet? Very hard to believe.  I am sure this ball will be retested in the near future, because either they got a bad set of balls to work with, their testers are crazy, or something in the Primal Instinct was tweaked after the Demo Days I attended.

Yeah, I got to see this ball only a few frames, becuase one of the pro shop staff was testing out the ball I guess. This ball did cut through the oil on the lane pretty well. (The lane was a med-heavy house shot with carrydown)

Does anyone have the rest of the numbers that BTM gave the primal instinct? Been looking into picking one up used from a friend. Thanks.

It does have lower numbers than the Sweet.  Funny thing is, I've talked to two different Ebonite Staffers, with two completely different styles and they say it's more ball than the Killer instinct Sanded and the Primetime Sanded.  It definately is a big hooking ball.

I have both the primal and the v2 sweet.  V2 sweet drilled with pin up 1/2 inch and to the ring of ring 1/2 inch, cg stacked below.  Primal drilled with pin under ring, cg kicked out 1/2 inch and bomb in strong flip.  V2 sweet is pretty good length and has a big time snap with amazing pin action.  Primal instinct goes about 5 feet longer and makes an arc move to the pocket.  It's not the big hooking ball that the killer is.  Gets more length than the killer and if i made ebonite's hook rating and length ratings i would give the primal a length of 12 compared to the 9 of the killer and the hook rating definitely not 30 but maybe around 25 tops.  The primal is very controllable of the dry which makes me think that this ball would be good for fresh house conditions with clean backends.  It does do pretty good in oil, but nowhere near the Killer.
